Welcome

Welcome to Temple, Texas—a city where tradition and progress come together in inspiring ways. As the new President and CEO of the Temple Chamber of Commerce, I’m honored to present our 2025 Temple Local Snapshot & Membership Guide: Connecting Community & Business. This publication celebrates our community, capturing the spirit and achievements that define Temple.

Stepping into this role, I’m energized by Temple’s growth as a vibrant hub for businesses, entrepreneurs, and visionaries. Our city is thriving, and I’m immensely proud of the foundation built by our business community. From the charm of our historic downtown to our world-class healthcare facilities and dynamic industries, Temple is a city of opportunity, driven by the hard work and dedication of its people.

What I admire most about Temple is our spirit of collaboration. Together with community organizations, business leaders, and local government, we are working to strengthen and elevate the quality of life here. Temple, TX, A Prime Destination for Business Growth

For companies seeking a supportive, well-connected, and thriving community to establish roots, invest, grow, and generate employment opportunities, Temple, Texas stands as an exceptional choice. With a population exceeding 87,000, Temple offers a close-knit city experience with the benefits of a major economic hub, located in the heart of Texas. Recent investments in infrastructure, including an allocation of $15 million in federal funding for critical upgrades to I-35 and I-14, aim to increase highway capacity, boost safety, and enhance commuting quality for residents, including those stationed at Fort Cavazos. This enhanced infrastructure underpins Temple’s ability to support and attract businesses and

improve freight mobility, cementing Temple as one of Texas’s most connected cities.

Temple’s strategic location is one of its greatest assets. Positioned just 45 minutes from Austin along the

I-35 corridor and intersected by the planned I-14, Temple connects easily with major Texas markets like

Dallas-Fort Worth, San Antonio, and Houston. In fact, within a three-hour radius, businesses can reach over 80% of Texas’ population, making Temple a true hub for growth and access.

The city’s readiness to support business expansion is apparent, with 1,600 acres of shovel-ready land prepared for immediate development. These designated areas, including an industrial park, a corporate campus, and a medical/education district offer logistical ease and operational advantages.

Temple’s commitment to economic growth is evident in the $700 million worth of proposed and completed projects in the last five years. The Temple Economic Development Corporation (TEDC) reports a 19% increase in jobs from 2009 to 2019, highlighting the city’s strong foundation for employment. Furthermore, Temple’s cost of doing business is 20.1% below the national average, bolstered by exceptional healthcare, education, vibrant downtown districts, and effective leadership.

One of the latest milestones includes SeAH Superalloy Technologies’ $110 million investment to build a high-performance metal manufacturing facility in Temple’s industrial park, expected to create over 100 full-time jobs. This landmark facility, a first in the U.S. by a South Korean company, will produce special alloys for aerospace, automotive, and energy sectors, enhancing Temple’s industrial landscape. Local leaders and Governor Greg Abbott celebrated the announcement, seeing it as a testament to Temple’s strategic advantage and robust infrastructure that continues to attract international investments.

Additionally, the August relaunch of TEDC’s workforce attraction brand, now known as Live Work Temple, offers a refreshed online platform connecting residents, jobseekers, and businesses with Temple’s resources. This updated site, featuring an interactive neighborhoods map, cost-of-living calculator, and regional jobs board, enhances access to the opportunities Temple provides, from career growth to quality-of-life amenities.

In manufacturing, Temple boasts a GRP growth of 34% over the past five years, marking it as a central manufacturing powerhouse in Texas. Partnerships like the one between Temple College and Texas A&M University-Central Texas support advanced technical training, including the state’s first Roots Education

Temple is also home to thriving companies like Artcobell, Datamars, Scott & White Health Plan, Wilsonart, McLane Company, PDI, and Texell, which contribute to the community’s economic vitality. Noteworthy recent expansions, like H-E-B’s automated frozen food distribution line and FedEx Ground’s $40 million distribution center, underscore the city’s appeal and support for logistical and operational excellence.

Tornado – Stories of resilience, Yellow Rose of Texas

Temple Strong – Tornado Recovery

On May 22, 2024, Bell County was ravaged by two devastating tornadoes, leaving nearly 500 homes and businesses in ruins or severely damaged. With winds surpassing 120 miles per hour, the storms wreaked havoc, injuring over 30 people and causing widespread destruction. As the sun rose the following morning, the Temple community, though bruised and battered, demonstrated remarkable resilience. City officials declared a disaster, prompting hundreds of dedicated businesses and individuals to mobilize.

One local resident, Britnia Weicht, felt a profound urge to help. Living just 25 minutes away, Britnia and her family knew they had to act. She shared her resolve with her husband, First Sergeant Robert Weicht, and together, they drove through the hardest-hit areas, stopping at numerous homes to offer their support. They spoke with residents and neighbors, asking how they could help, and shared their availability on Facebook to spread the word. What began as a small family effort quickly grew into a significant community operation. Initially, it was just Britnia, Robert, and their teenage daughter. However, after Memorial Day weekend, Robert had to return to his duties as a First Sergeant in the Army. Undeterred, he began sending soldiers who had time to spare and a desire to assist. Through word of mouth and community referrals, their volunteer efforts expanded beyond anything they could have imagined.

To date, the team has helped almost 200 families. Their work encompasses much more than just tree removal and debris clearing. The volunteers have tackled a wide range of tasks, including cutting down trees, removing brush, cleaning up yards, dismantling and removing structures, salvaging items, gutting and demolishing buildings, completing home repairs, and even providing groceries and household items to those in need.

The Weicht family has also played a crucial role in collecting and delivering donations from the community. They organized a donation drive on the military base for food, toiletries, and baby items, with Robert spearheading the effort. The team, comprising military personnel, has been instrumental in spreading the word and securing as many donations as possible. Britnia reflects on their unique situation, noting that as military families often separated from their loved ones, they empathize deeply with those in need and hope that others would offer similar support to their families in times of crisis. The immense dedication and support from her team have made this initiative possible.

Many volunteers have contributed over 100 hours each, with her own family surpassing 200 hours. The children of many team members have also pitched in, sacrificing their time to help others and witnessing firsthand the positive impact of their efforts. The support from HHBN III Armored Corps at Fort Cavazos has been particularly valuable, allowing soldier volunteers to continue assisting with the cleanup during their normal work hours. The community has responded with an outpouring of support and encouragement, including financial donations to cover expenses.

Like the Weicht family and their volunteers, hundreds of others quickly stepped up to assist those in need. They assessed damage, prepared meals, cleared debris, and united under the banner of Temple Strong. Dozens of volunteers gathered in the heat at Tarver Elementary, led by the Bell County Business Group, serving an estimated 4,000 free burgers and hotdogs over three full days to those affected by damage or loss of electricity. One group member stated, “Really, it was about small business owners rallying together and seeing an immediate need in the community and having the resources to fit that need. We would do it again!” Roofing and restoration companies worked around the clock, providing free tarping and water removal services, often with little to no sleep. Numerous other businesses and organizations sprang into action to serve the community, including Bold Republic Brewing Company, Family Promise, Haute Dog, Shaffin Wegener of State Farm, Wes’s Burger Shack, Feed My Sheep, Bulldog Auto Detailing, KCEN Channel 6, Texell Credit Union, Vista Real Estate, and countless others. The Temple community has banded together in an extraordinary display of resilience and solidarity. Neighbors helped neighbors, clearing debris, providing shelter, and sharing resources. Volunteers from all walks of life pitched in, offering everything from meals to manual labor. This collective effort not only sped up recovery but also strengthened the bonds within the community, showcasing the power of unity and compassion in times of crisis.

Britnia states, “Volunteering and helping others has always been my passion. We strive to be a blessing to someone every day, and we firmly believe in spreading love and kindness to counteract the darkness in the world.” This experience has solidified her desire to start her own nonprofit organization, and she eagerly anticipates its future impact. She looks forward to continuing to bless others, embracing the motto, “We’re stronger together.”

This disaster has revealed the true character of Temple — a city united by empathy, driven by hope, and fortified by the relentless will to overcome. As we move forward, let us carry this spirit with us, knowing that no challenge is too great when we stand together.

The future of Temple is bright, and with hearts full of compassion and hands ready to help, we will build a stronger, more resilient community for generations to come. Temple will continue to rise from these ashes, thanks to the boundless compassion and determination of those who live and work there. Together, we embody the spirit of Temple Strong.

Moreover, the City of Temple operates four public pools across town, providing additional options for aquatic leisure.

Lakeside Bliss
Belton and Stillhouse Hollow Lakes A mere 3 miles beyond Temple’s city limits, Belton Lake sprawls across 12,385 acres along the Leon River. A vital water supply, a sanctuary for fish and wildlife, and a recreational paradise, Belton Lake is a true gem. The lake offers a range of amenities, including boat ramps, lakeside marinas, bank fishing access, swimming areas, camping spots, picnicking sites, scenic hiking trails, and prime locations for wildlife enthusiasts.

Temple Lake Park at Belton Lake caters to swimmers with its designated swimming area, sandy beach, restrooms, picnic tables, boat ramps, and a group shelter. Operated year-round by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, this park charges a small entry fee to maintain its facilities and ensure an exceptional experience.

Adjacent to Temple lies Stillhouse Hollow Lake, a breathtaking reservoir nestled within the Belton/Salado area. With over 58 miles of pristine shoreline, this 6,430-acre lake showcases a splendid array of activities such as boating, fishing, swimming, camping, picnicking, scenic trails, birdwatching, two charming parks, and a lakeside marina. The opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts are endless.

Extreme Sports and More For those seeking adrenaline-pumping experiences, Temple offers an assortment of extreme sports. At Miller Springs Nature Center, rock climbing and mountain biking enthusiasts can revel in a 260-acre scenic natural area between the Leon River and striking 110-foot-high bluffs near the Belton Lake Dam.

Pristine Parks and Recreational Gems Temple prides itself on its immaculate parks and state-of-the-art recreational facilities. With an extensive network of over 25 miles of walking, hiking, and biking trails, playgrounds, and various fitness opportunities, Temple seamlessly integrates recreation into an active lifestyle. The city organizes family- oriented programs, including youth camps, athletic leagues, a bark park for furry friends, pickleball courts, and disc golf courses.

Recently unveiled in West Temple, Crossroads Park is a 260-acre state-of-the-art recreation complex. Operated by the City of Temple, this facility boasts baseball, softball, and soccer fields, tennis courts, a 27-hole disc golf course, and other amenities. As a regional hub for recreational athletics, Crossroads Park attracts a diverse range of sports tournaments, fostering a vibrant sports culture within Temple.

In addition to Crossroads Park, Temple houses two additional disc golf courses at South Temple Community Park and Lions Park. These courses offer thrilling and challenging games.

One of Temple’s highlights is the nationally recognized walking trail at Lions Park. This trail combines two distinct trail types. It meanders through a lower park section, revealing wetlands and a picturesque pecan grove. Fort Cavazos

A Strong Partnership

Fort Cavazos, a sprawling U.S. Army base outside Temple, has cultivated a long-standing and mutually beneficial relationship with the city. This partnership has resulted in numerous advantages for both residents and soldiers. The base encompasses 335 square miles of Bell and Coryell Counties, positioned 60 miles north of Austin and 50 miles south of Waco, and supports multiple units, a corps headquarters, and an active mobilization mission.

The base is home to over 37,000 active-duty soldiers and airmen, along with over 75,000 family members who contribute to the local economy by shopping, dining, and enjoying Temple and neighboring communities. The base trains approximately 22,000 reserve soldiers annually, making it a significant hub for military personnel.

Fort Cavazos’ influence extends beyond the military realm supporting an estimated 507,000 individuals, including retirees and civilians working on the base. Since its establishment over 75 years ago, Fort Cavazos has played a crucial role in training soldiers for various military operations such as the Korean War, Vietnam War, Desert Storm, and deployments following the September 11 attacks.

The base continually updates its facilities to offer state-of-the-art training opportunities. Notable among these is a mock European village constructed in the 1980s, designed to prepare soldiers for urban combat scenarios. Additional training sites simulating Iraqi and Afghan villages were also constructed in recent years.

Fort Cavazos holds a prominent place in history, with notable figures like Elvis Presley passing through its gates. The army’s continuous investment in the base is evident through the construction of modern amenities, including child development centers, a stadium, and the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center.

In terms of economic impact, Fort Cavazos greatly contributes to the Texas economy. As the state’s largest single-location employer, it provides employment for over 6,000 civilians and nearly 11,000 contractors. In 2021, Fort Cavazos’ employment and base-related spending contributed to 160,933 direct and indirect jobs statewide and generated more than $11.2 billion in disposable personal income and more than $28.8 billion in economic activity.

Fort Cavazos’ positive influence is not limited to its military functions. It also serves as a reliable partner and neighbor, as demonstrated during times of crisis. In early 2021, when a severe winter storm hit Texas, soldiers from the 1st Medical Brigade at Fort Cavazos aided the Temple community by assisting with various effects of the storm, such as providing potable water to areas affected by frozen water pipes.

The collaboration between Fort Cavazos and Temple extends beyond crisis response. Soldiers from the base actively volunteer throughout the year, supporting schools, veteran service organizations, and other causes. This engagement allows civilians to develop a deeper understanding of the army while soldiers gain insight into Temple’s vibrant culture.

The National Mounted Warrior Museum (NMWM) celebrated the grand opening in September of 2024. This world-class museum honors our nation’s mounted soldiers, sharing the untold stories of their service to our nation. With immersive exhibits and several multimedia experiences, visitors are able to discover how mounted warfare has evolved through the ages. The educational journey showcases Fort Cavazos’ history as visitors are able to walk through at their own pace as the exhibits guide them through notable conflicts that shaped the nation to include decisive moments from World War II, The Korean War, The Vietnam War, The Cold War, Operation Desert Storm, and The Global War on Terror.

Personal testimonies can be heard at interactive stations within the exhibits. Fort Cavazos has been home to the U.S. Army’s premiere units since its inception. These personal testimonies from servicemen and women bring a layer of rich emotion and connection between the realities of conflict far from home, and visitors today.

The museum offers over 12,000 square feet of permanent gallery space, over 1,000 square feet of temporary exhibit space, and a 4,900-foot rotunda which showcases a U.S. Civil War Cavalry (horse troop), WW I Tank, Vietnam OH-6 helicopter and a drone operator. With room for expansion as funds are raised for the next phase, NMWM offers an overall in-depth educational look at just how far mounted warfare has evolved from horses, to bicycles, to motorcycles, Jeeps, to tank evolutions, helicopter missions and into the future of mounted warfare, drones.

The NMWM is situated on 17 acres right next to the 1st Cavalry Division Horse Detachment and the Marvin Leath Visitor Center. The museum is free, open to the public, and does not require a visitor pass to visit the museum.

The flagship hospital, Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Temple, stands as a Level I trauma center, providing personalized, high-quality care while also leading in research and medical education.

Outstanding Achievements and Accolades Temple has garnered numerous accolades, highlighting its commitment to excellence in patient care. In 2021, the hospital achieved the esteemed Magnet designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, placing it among the top 8% of hospitals nationwide. Additionally, it was recognized as the No. 2 major teaching hospital in the country and ranked on Fortune/IBM Watson Health’s 100 Top Hospitals list. The hospital’s expertise in cancer care, breast care, orthopedics, and other specialties has earned it recognition as one of the top 10% of hospitals in the nation.

Specialized Pediatric Care at McLane Children’s
Medical Center

Within the Baylor Scott & White Health system, McLane Children’s Medical Center in Temple stands out as the area’s only Level II pediatric trauma center. Verified by the American College of Surgeons, it provides critical care for infants, children, and adolescents. With a Level IV neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and a comprehensive range of services, McLane Children’s has been meeting the unique health care needs of young patients for over a decade. The hospital’s commitment to holistic care is evident in its therapeutic musical playground and dedicated neonatal and pediatric transport team.

Central Texas Veterans Health Care System

Temple’s health care landscape extends to the dedicated services offered by the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System. This comprehensive health care system serves a vast area, providing inpatient, outpatient, and residential care to approximately 110,000 registered patients across 39 counties. With a budget of approximately $1 billion and over 4,200 employees, the system offers a wide range of specialized care to veterans, including acute care, mental health care, and surgical care.

Temple’s commitment to comprehensive health care is evident in the presence of other notable facilities. Temple EMS, operated by American Medical Response (AMR), offers pre-hospital emergency medical care and ambulance transport to the city and Bell County. Canyon Creek Behavioral Health provides inpatient and outpatient services for mental health care, catering to adolescents, adults, and older adults. Cedar Crest Hospital offers acute inpatient and residential treatment for individuals in need of mental health care, including specialized programs for children and adolescents.

Academy ISD

Located just southeast of Temple, Academy ISD is a rapidly growing district integrating technology across its curriculum. The district is known for its strong extracurriculars, with championships in sports, music, and drama.

Belton ISD
Covering Belton, Morgan’s Point Resort, and parts of Temple, Belton ISD offers a wide range of programs, including a tech-focused high school and early childhood center. The district focuses on academic rigor and preparing students with relevant technical skills.

Temple ISD
Temple ISD provides a global education, featuring the International Baccalaureate Programme from K-12 and robust career and technical certification programs. The district emphasizes technology integration, equipping students with Chromebooks to enhance learning.

Serving 1,550 students, Troy ISD empowers students to achieve their potential and has received multiple distinctions from the Texas Education Agency, reflecting its academic strengths. Troy High School is ranked among the top high schools by U.S. News & World Report.

Part of the Priority Charter School System, Temple Charter Academy offers a character-based curriculum from Pre-K to 12th grade, with an emphasis on multiculturalism, safety, and a nurturing environment.

Railroad and Heritage Museum

The Temple Railroad and Heritage Museum is housed in Temple’s historic Santa Fe Depot. The permanent exhibits explore working and traveling on the railroad with an emphasis on the Santa Fe Railway. The museum also hosts a range of temporary exhibits, educational programming and special events. The Cultural Activities Center

The Cultural Activities Center believes in the power of creation. With a goal to enrich the lives of all Central Texas residents by inspiring exploration, involvement and enjoyment in the arts, the CAC is a community-funded, not-for-profit arts center that encourages cooperation between other area institutions, supports the arts in education and provides resources to get active.

Using a fully equipped theater with technical support, four art studios, four art galleries and meeting rooms for parties and events, the CAC hosts professional touring shows, concerts with world-class musicians, community-staged productions, and many more. Robinson Family Farm

Family owned and operated in the heart of Central Texas, the Robinson Family Farm is open seasonally for Easter, pumpkin patch visits and precut Christmas tree sales. The Temple

Children’s Museum

The Temple Children’s Museum (TCM) is located at 11 N. 4th in Downtown Temple. Established in 2016, their mission is to create a community which sparks the creativity and curiosity of young children, through hands-on learning and interactive play. The Museum is open Tuesday–Saturday from 10:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. Member-only early hours are Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 a.m.–10:00 a.m.
