Welcome from the SouthWest Mobile County Chamber!

As we reflect on the journey our community has taken, I am filled with a deep sense of pride and excitement about the remarkable growth and resilience we’ve shown together. It’s an honor to serve as the Executive Director of the SouthWest Mobile County Chamber, and as we continue to move forward, I am constantly inspired by the innovation and progress that define our area. Our slogan, “Championing Innovation, Inspiring Progress,” perfectly encapsulates the essence of our work and the spirit of our community.

Over the years, we’ve seen incredible growth in SouthWest Mobile County. Our small businesses, which are the backbone of our local economy, have continued to thrive and evolve. From family-owned shops to cutting-edge startups, the entrepreneurial spirit here is alive and well. It’s this spirit of innovation—of constantly striving to improve and adapt—that has allowed us to navigate challenges and emerge stronger each year.

But growth isn’t just about numbers; it’s about people. It’s about the connections we make, the relationships we build, and the support we give one another. Small businesses don’t just create jobs; they create the heart and soul of our community. They are the ones who sponsor Little League teams, provide mentorship to young entrepreneurs and support our local charities. Every dollar spent with a local business circulates within our community, helping to make SouthWest Mobile County a vibrant place to live and work.

At the Chamber, we do not just refer to you as members—we refer to you as partners. This reflects our belief that true success comes from collaboration, not just participation. Partnerships are the foundation of everything we do. Whether it’s working alongside local government, nonprofits or educational institutions, we understand that together, we can accomplish far more than we can on our own. Connecting leadership with local impact

The Southwest Mobile County Chamber of Commerce is proud to launch Leaders on Location, a new initiative designed to strengthen the connection between our business leaders and the industries that drive our local economy.

This program invites Chamber Board Members and Diplomats to step out of the boardroom and into the heart of our business community through guided tours of local companies and facilities. From manufacturing plants and shipyards to small businesses and service providers, Leaders on Location offers a firsthand look at the operations, innovations, and challenges that shape our region.

The goal is simple yet powerful: to give our leadership a deeper understanding of the businesses we serve. By seeing these operations in action and hearing directly from business owners and managers, our board and diplomats are better equipped to advocate for our partners, identify opportunities, and foster meaningful connections that support growth.

More than just a tour, each visit is a professional development opportunity. It allows participants to expand their knowledge of different industries, explore potential partnerships, and build relationships across sectors. For businesses, it’s a valuable platform to showcase their work, tell their story, and highlight their impact on the community.

The inaugural tour took place at Birdon America’s shipyard, where leaders gained insight into the company’s role in local job creation and maritime advancement. The experience was both eye-opening and energizing—a testament to the value this program brings to everyone involved

As we continue to visit more businesses throughout the year, we look forward to the partnerships and progress that will grow from these unique behind-the-scenes experiences.

Message from the mayor of Mobile

Dear SouthWest Mobile County Business Leaders,

As Mayor of Mobile, I want to thank you for an incredible year. Together, we’ve made great strides across our city and region, and the future looks even brighter.

In 2025, the SouthWest Mobile County Chamber challenges us to “Champion Innovation and Inspire Progress.” Across every sector, we’re seeing results. Over the past two years, the Mobile region’s GDP has grown by $1.13 billion, with 4,059 new jobs created. Growth continues with major expansions at Austal, Airbus and the South Alabama Logistics Park, bringing even more opportunities.

We remain focused on building a safer, stronger city. This year, we’ll break ground on a state-of-the-art arena in downtown Mobile, set to host world-class entertainment and energize tourism. We also expect progress on the Mobile River Bridge and Bayway, a project that will transform regional transportation and economic development. Meanwhile, construction of a new International Airport is underway, improving access and connectivity for years to come.

In 2025, you’ll see more first responders in our neighborhoods, thanks to a new, competitive pay plan. We’re also investing in capital projects, including Langan Lake dredging, Three Mile Creek Greenway Trail additions and upgrades to parks and public facilities.

Though I will not seek another term, I remain fully committed to finishing the year strong, completing key initiatives and ensuring the next mayor is set up for success.

With continued collaboration across our business, civic and community sectors, I’m confident the best is yet to come.

Welcome from the County Commissioner

DISTRICT 3 COMMISSIONER RANDALL DUEITT

Welcomes neighbors, guests to enjoy improvements in the nature space

In District 3, we are extremely excited to announce the grand re-opening of Bayfront Park located at 15961 Dauphin Island Parkway in Coden. The park temporarily closed in March 2022 for extensive improvements and reopened to the public this March. Enhancements to the 20-acre park include the construction of a large pocket beach, shoreline adjustments, a boardwalk, a playground, pavilions, restrooms, a park building and an improved parking lot. These improvements were made possible through funding from the Alabama Trustee Implementation Group Deepwater Horizon Natural Resource Assessment Trustees. The pocket beach will provide protected access to the waters of Mobile Bay for swimming, paddle boarding, windsurfing and other water activities like shore fishing or crabbing. Playground equipment and covered picnic tables make it a great place for an afternoon picnic.

Cypress Creek Golf Course, located at 3700 St. Andrews Drive, is under construction, with the driving range set to be the first area to open to the public. Currently, the range is undergoing the final stages of sodding. Across the course, there are many bridges spanning over several canals that give the area a unique landscape. Bridge contractors are onsite, with two bridges completed currently. The cart path contractors are also onsite working as quickly as possible as the weather allows. We look forward to spring to move forward with grass installation on the remainder of the course. When completed, Cypress Creek will be an asset to the community as not only a public course, but a course with onsite dedicated areas for students.

Cedar Point Pier, first built in the 1950s, is open to the public. Originally owned by the McRae family, Mobile County purchased the pier in December 2021 to ensure this incredible point of access to the water remained open to the community. The Commission purchased the pier using a $2.2 million state GOMESA (Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act) grant provided by Gov. Kay Ivey. Renovations to the pier include removing unstable and worn structures, temporary stabilization around the bulkhead, grading of the parking area and the completion of necessary electrical work. The work performed on the pier is designed to enhance the safety and stability of the pier and enhance the safety of visitors enjoying the property. The pier is open 24 hours, does not require a fishing license for Alabama residents and has restroom facilities onsite.

Memories Fish Camp, located at 4901 Fowl River Road, is ready for the summer season! The area provides a place for individuals to access Fowl River through a boat ramp, dock and an ADA-accessible kayak launch. Memories Fish Camp upgrades were funded by the Gulf of Mexico Energy and Security Act (GOMESA).

The Southwest Mobile County Chamber brings networking and fun closer to home

January 

Partnership Renewal Giveaway 
All SouthWest Mobile County Chamber (SWMCC) partnerships renew in January. If your business renews by the deadline, you will have a chance to win the Annual Renewal Giveaway. 

February 

T.A.L.L. Applications Open 
T.A.L.L. Leadership Academy is an intensive and elite, eight-month program designed to provide area high school students with the opportunity to gain a greater knowledge about their community, develop strong leadership skills and gain more self and social awareness. Participants are required to attend school in the Mobile County area (private, Catholic, public and home-schooled students are accepted). Each student must apply in the fourth quarter of their junior year. Interviews will take place in June and the formal announcement will take place in July.  

March 

Annual Awards Gala 
The Annual Chamber Celebration is a gala to celebrate accomplishments, recognize partners and highlight the year in review for the chamber. 

First Responder’s Week 
The SWMCC makes it a priority to recognize the first responders within our community. During the month of March, we plan a First Responder’s Week where our partners can sign up to provide breakfast, lunch or dinner to a station in our community.

April 

Small Business Expo 
The Business Expo is an event to network and showcase your goods and services to the community and business professionals. You can talk to other community members while also supporting the efforts of the Chamber and its vision. This is an annual event for the Chamber; it has been a success for more than 40 years. You don’t want to miss the opportunity to network and meet new contacts to help bring success to your business in the days to come. The Vendor Soiree is an opportunity to relax and talk to other participants over lunch. Lunch is prepared by a local caterer and free to attend if you are participating in the Small Business Expo.  

T.A.L.L. Graduation 
Each April, the SWMCC hosts a graduation ceremony for the students in its scholarship program. The students who complete the necessary requirements receive a $1,500 scholarship. 

May 

National Day of Prayer 
The Chamber hosts a prayer meeting for both chamber partners and members of the community. Guest pastors and leaders are invited to pray over our organization, community and nation. 

Partner Appreciation 
Partner Appreciation is a crawfish boil. This is a celebration to honor our partners who have chosen to support SouthWest Mobile County Chamber throughout the year at events, lunches, coffees, ribbon cuttings and more. This is also a networking event to make connections in a casual setting with a crawfish boil and beer. The Partner Appreciation is held once a year with no admission to attendees and all crawfish are complimentary. This is an outside event. (Chamber partners only!)  

Small Business of the Year Luncheon with the Mayor 
The Small Business of the Year Luncheon with the Mayor is held annually in May. It is the event where we announce the Business of the Year. 

June 

5-on-5 Nonprofit Luncheon 
A large part of our organization’s mission is supporting local nonprofits that work hard to strengthen our community. During this special luncheon, we invite five, local non-profit representatives to speak for five minutes about what their organizations do in the community. Thus, the name five-on-five. 

July 

Kids’ Day
This is a community event created to prepare underprivileged children for the upcoming school year. The Chamber provides more than 1,000 backpacks stuffed with school supplies for elementary-aged children.

August 

Star Student Recognition 
The SWMCC partners with seven local elementary schools each year to recognize outstanding students. The Chamber matches each school with a sponsor which allows us to recognize one student per month throughout the academic year. These students are invited to our monthly business luncheon where they can meet our partners while being recognized for their academic achievement. 

September 

Sporting Clay Shoot 
The SouthWest Mobile County Chamber of Commerce hosts its Annual Sporting Clay Shoot each September. The event is to be hosted at Taylor Creek Sporting Clays (11910 Windsor Road, Theodore, AL  36582). All proceeds will go to the SWMCC Foundation to support T. A. L. L. Scholarships. 

October 

National Chamber Day 
National Chamber Day is observed annually on the third Wednesday of October. It’s to recognize and celebrate the work of local chambers of commerce in supporting businesses and economic development.

November 

10 Gun 10 Gear Giveaway 
The SouthWest Mobile County Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Gun Giveaway Fundraiser allows supporters to purchase tickets for $50 for a chance to win up to 20 drawings. Beginning November 1, two raffle winners will be drawn for 10 consecutive days. Gun Giveaway winners will receive a predetermined gun from Eddie’s Wholesale Jewelry. The second drawing is for our Gear Giveaway winner. Gear may include the following items: cooler, binoculars, beach chairs, gift cards and tumblers. This fundraiser supports the T.A.L.L. Scholarship Program. 

Christmas Tree Lighting 
This joyful event marks the start of the holiday celebrations, so bring your loved ones and share in the spirit of the season. Don’t miss the special guest appearance from Santa, and be sure to capture the moment as we illuminate the night!  

Tinsel Takedown 
This event allows organizations to come together and showcase their businesses to Tree Lighting attendees, all while actively giving back to our community. Each Tree Lighting attendee receives a ticket to vote for their favorite tree, and they can purchase additional tickets for $1 apiece. Proceeds from this event go towards the Chamber’s Annual Christmas Giveback Campaign which provides Christmas toys for local children during the holiday season. 

Food Drive 
The Chamber does a food drive each November which helps the Chamber provide Thanksgiving meals to more than 200 families with children enrolled in local elementary schools.

December 

VIP Pancakes & Pajamas with Santa 
Slip into your coziest pajamas and enjoy a delicious breakfast of fluffy pancakes, served with a side of holiday magic. This exclusive experience includes meet-and-greet opportunities with Santa, fun activities and festive surprises. This is the perfect treat for families looking to make unforgettable memories this holiday season.  

Pancake Breakfast with Santa 
Join us for a delightful Pancake Breakfast with Santa prior to the Tillman’s Corner Christmas Parade!  Enjoy a morning filled with fluffy pancakes, delicious toppings and great company.

Tillman’s Corner Christmas Parade 
The Tillman’s Corner Christmas Parade takes place the first Saturday in December at 10:30 a.m.! Each year the Chamber announces a fun theme and encourages participants to decorate their floats according to the theme.  

Community Giveback 
Christmas is one of the sweetest seasons at the Chamber. We partner with local businesses to provide food, Christmas gifts and hygiene products to 20-25 local elementary school children who would otherwise go without.

This special event was a sparkling reminder of the power of community, collaboration and commerce

The SouthWest Mobile County Chamber’s Annual Awards Gala, held this year with a “Lights, Camera, Commerce” theme, marked a momentous occasion as the Chamber celebrated 40 years of dedication and progress in the Tillman’s Corner community. It was a night to reflect on the growth of the region, celebrate achievements and honor those whose tireless efforts have helped shape the future of the area.

The evening was a glittering tribute to those who have contributed significantly to the growth and prosperity of Tillman’s Corner. Over the last four decades, the Chamber has played a pivotal role in advocating for small businesses, fostering community collaboration and ensuring the success of countless local enterprises. It was particularly fitting that this year’s gala, a fundraising event for the SouthWest Mobile County Chamber’s Foundation, recognized the efforts of those who have been integral to the area’s development.

Honoring the Founders and Early Advocates
The evening also took a moment to pay homage to the founding members of the Chamber, who, nearly 40 years ago, saw the potential in Tillman’s Corner. These visionaries, through hard work and dedication, laid the foundation for what has become a thriving community of local businesses. Their advocacy for Tillman’s Corner, and their commitment to ensuring small businesses had a voice, has undoubtedly been a catalyst for the growth and success of this region.

The Chamber has worked diligently over the years to create a space where businesses can prosper, and much of this success is due to the early pioneers who believed in the power of community, collaboration and commerce.

Supporting the Community Through the Foundation
The gala is not only an occasion to recognize the achievements of local individuals and businesses, it also serves as a crucial fundraiser for the SouthWest Mobile County Chamber’s Foundation. The Foundation supports two key initiatives that benefit both the local community and future generations.

The Gateway Initiative, a beautification project for Tillman’s Corner, aims to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the region, making it a more welcoming place for both residents and visitors. Additionally, the T.A.L.L. Scholarship Program, which supports local high school seniors, ensures that young people in Tillman’s Corner have the opportunity to continue their education and reach their full potential.

Recognizing the 2024 Award Recipients
This year’s award recipients were celebrated for their extraordinary contributions to the community. The 2024 honorees are:

• Citizen of the Year: Marty Carrell. Chief Executive Officer of the Women’s Resource Center. Marty has been a steadfast advocate for women and families in our community, providing essential services and support to those in need.

• Impact Award: Mostellar Medical Center. Recognized for its unwavering commitment to providing quality healthcare and services to the residents of Tillman’s Corner and beyond. Their dedication to wellness and care makes them a cornerstone of the community.

• Teacher of the Year: Amanda Davidson. A beloved educator at Nan Gray Davis Elementary, Amanda has impacted countless students with her passion for teaching and commitment to their success.

• Diplomat of the Year: Jerry Hamilton. With PuroClean of Mobile, Jerry has shown exemplary service in both business and the community. His dedication to ensuring a safer and cleaner environment for families is commendable.

• Lifetime Achievement Award: Jim Henderson. Jim owns Mobile Lumber. His decades of service and commitment to the business community have made him a true icon in the region.

Looking Ahead to the Future
The 2024 Annual Awards Gala served as a reminder of the extraordinary progress made in Tillman’s Corner over the past 40 years, and the vision and dedication of those who have helped it grow. As we look toward the future, the SouthWest Mobile County Chamber of Commerce and its Foundation continue to work tirelessly for the betterment of the community. With the support of local businesses, residents and leaders, Tillman’s Corner will continue to shine as a beacon of opportunity, growth and community spirit.

As the evening came to a close, guests left with renewed inspiration and a shared sense of pride in their community. The Chamber’s commitment to supporting local businesses and young people, as well as enhancing the beauty of the area, ensures that the next 40 years will be just as bright as the first.

As the proud owner of Gulf Coast Graphix, I often reflect on the journey that has brought us here—one that’s deeply rooted in the heart of our community. At Gulf Coast Graphix, we specialize in vehicular wraps, printed signage, murals and more. While we’ve grown over the years, one thing has remained constant: our commitment to serving our neighbors and supporting the local businesses that make this area so unique.

Being a small business owner means wearing many hats, from designing eye-catching graphics to managing the day-to-day operations. But it’s also about building relationships and creating a space where our community can grow. I believe that businesses like ours are the lifeblood of the Gulf Coast. It’s not just about creating beautiful signage or vibrant murals; it’s about supporting one another and contributing to the local economy.

In an age where national chains and online retailers seem to dominate, there’s something incredibly special about being a part of a tight-knit community. As a proud partner of the Southwest Mobile County Chamber of Commerce, I am consistently impressed by the chamber’s unwavering commitment to supporting and uplifting local businesses. Each small business is recognized as an essential and valuable part of the community, and the chamber works diligently to uphold high standards, promote ethical practices and create meaningful opportunities for growth and improvement throughout our area.

As a real estate agent with Robert’s Brothers and a true mover and shaker in my community, I take great pride in not only helping people find their dream homes but also in actively contributing to the success of the businesses around me. My passion for growth and progress is driven by my previous career as a school teacher, where I developed a deep love for educating young minds. I believe in the power of knowledge, collaboration and lifting others up, and I carry that same philosophy into my work as a real estate professional.

The monthly lunch meetings, along with the smaller, more intimate coffee gatherings, provide a fantastic opportunity to connect with other local business owners who are also movers and shakers in our community. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of getting to know countless families throughout our community. Building strong, personal relationships is at the heart of what I do. Living and working in Theodore, I understand the lifestyle, values and priorities that shape our day-to-day lives. For 35 years, we’ve provided life-changing recovery services, and over the past three years, we’ve expanded our focus to offer Christ-centered, holistic care for entire families affected by addiction. We believe that healing families helps strengthen our entire community.”

SW MOBILE COUNTY STUDENT PROGRAMS

The SouthWest Mobile County Chamber offers exciting opportunities to pair outstanding students and businesses in the community.

T.A.L.L. Scholarship Program
The SouthWest Mobile County Chamber of Commerce makes instilling leadership skills into today’s youth a top priority. The Chamber has a Student Scholarship Program for high school seniors called the Tillman’s Corner Area Learning Leadership (T.A.L.L.) Program. Throughout their time in the eight-month program, students are given opportunities to volunteer in the community, tour local businesses and organizations, learn from financial experts, meet with elected officials at the Alabama State Capitol, visit with President Jo Bonner at the University of South Alabama, and more! Applications for the program are open between February and May each spring. Following the application period, the top 20-25 applicants are brought in for an interview with a selection panel. Ultimately, the top 8-12 interviewees are offered a spot in the program and given the opportunity to earn a scholarship.

Star Student Recognition
The SouthWest Mobile County Chamber of Commerce recognizes students from local elementary schools for their dedication to learning. The students are invited to attend the Chamber’s Monthly Business Luncheon where they receive a certificate, lapel pin and gift. During the luncheon, they also have the opportunity to interact with a representative from the business who sponsored their school. This program follows an academic year, beginning in September and ending in May. Over the summer, the Chamber opens up Star Student Sponsorships to give businesses an opportunity to partner with a local school and assist in providing this experience.  

Hankins High Achiever
The Hankins High Achiever Award is a new initiative designed to recognize and celebrate the exceptional students at Hankins Middle School. This award aims to spotlight young individuals who have not only excelled academically but have also demonstrated strong leadership, community involvement and dedication to making a positive impact in their school.

Strong ties bind the University of South Alabama and the Gulf Coast

Hometown students continue to make the University of South Alabama their top choice among the state’s four-year institutions. Although South attracts scholars from all 67 Alabama counties, all 50 states and dozens of countries around the globe, it takes great pride in being No. 1 with students from Mobile and Baldwin counties, as well as those who live along the Mississippi Coast.

As the university grows, it also is expanding access to advanced medical care through USA Health. As the region’s only academic health system, USA Health melds clinical care, research and healthcare education to meet the healthcare needs of those who live along the Gulf Coast and beyond.

The University of South Alabama is one of the state’s newest universities, beginning just 62 years ago with a bold vision to give Mobile residents a local choice so they didn’t have to travel north to earn a degree from a four-year, public institution of higher learning. Not long after, organizers began a push for a medical school at the fledgling university.

Today, South enrolls more than 14,000 students, has 10 colleges and schools and offers more than 115 degree programs. Jaguar athletes compete in 17 NCAA Division I sports, including baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, track and field, and volleyball.

USA Health has grown to more than 40 care delivery locations, including University Hospital, Children’s & Women’s Hospital, Providence Hospital, the Mitchell Cancer Institute and physician practice sites throughout the area. Altogether, the University of South Alabama is one of the region’s largest employers.

Many students come to South to pursue degrees in medicine, nursing or allied health fields. The university has the state’s largest nursing college. Additionally, a new Frederick P. Whiddon College of Medicine building is under construction — providing space for enhanced research and innovation and the ability to educate more medical students and scientists to help address a national shortage of healthcare providers.

Other students seek opportunities in business, engineering, computer science, education and the arts and sciences. The newest school is the Stokes School of Marine and Environmental Sciences, which has experienced exponential growth since it began offering undergraduate programs just a few years ago. Our location near the Mobile-Tensaw River Delta and in the fertile crescent of the coast, rich with sea life and energy resources, offers exceptional research and education opportunities.

One of South’s newest initiatives is the creation of the Office of Military Services, an expansion of the University’s support for active-duty members of the U.S. military, their dependents and veterans.

At USA Health, medicine is ever-changing. From the lab to the hospital, whether fighting cancer to fighting colds, the health system fosters a culture that encourages curiosity and challenges assumptions to improve the health of patients. What is discovered in the lab is taken to the hospital. What is learned in the classroom is applied in real life.

Several USA Health hospitals are regional referral centers with Children’s & Women’s serving expectant mothers with high-risk pregnancies along the Alabama and Mississippi Gulf Coast. A few miles away, University Hospital stands as the only Level I trauma center in the region, serving the most critically ill and injured patients in southwestern Alabama and coastal counties in Mississippi. Providence Hospital, now part of the USA Health family, has a long history of providing compassionate care to patients seeking hope and healing.

USA Health continues to seek ways to better serve its patients and the community. It recently established a rural healthcare collaborative with neighboring counties to continue to address healthcare shortages.

At the University of South Alabama, opportunities abound. In education, research and healthcare, we’re driven by purpose and practice to be a coastal-made force for good as the “Flagship of the Gulf Coast.”

The Annual Kids Day Festival Brings Hope and School Supplies Thousands

Each summer, as the back-to-school season approaches, one extraordinary event in our community stands as a shining example of what can be achieved when generosity, partnership and purpose come together. The Annual Kids Day Festival, now in its 12th year, began as a simple idea: to equip children in need with the basic tools required for a successful school year. What started with just a few hundred backpacks has transformed into a major community celebration, providing more than 1,200 backpacks and drawing a crowd of more than 7,000 attendees.

 From humble beginnings, the festival has grown into one of the region’s most impactful and anticipated events. Families from across our area — and even neighboring states — now make the trip to attend what has officially become a recognized state tourism event. And it’s easy to see why.

Beyond the distribution of backpacks filled with school supplies and uniforms, the festival offers a full day of fun, support and care for the whole family. More than 50 local and regional vendors participate, showcasing resources, services and opportunities for children and parents alike. Kids can enjoy bounce houses, interactive activities and a thrilling beach ball drop, while parents take advantage of on-site assistance from healthcare vendors and access to important wellness resources. One of the festival’s most beloved features? A local hair salon offering free back-to-school haircuts, ensuring every child walks into their first day of school feeling confident and cared for.

 What makes the Annual Kids Day Festival truly special is its heart. For many of the families who attend, this event is more than just a fun day out — it’s a vital lifeline. Many children in our community would not have the supplies or support they need to start the school year on the right foot without the help of this initiative.

 This powerful event is made possible through the collaboration of countless volunteers, community partners, businesses and organizations, all committed to the shared mission of uplifting the next generation. It is a testament to what can happen when a community comes together with compassion and purpose.

 As the Kids Day Festival continues to grow in size and impact, it remains grounded in its original mission: to ensure every child, no matter their circumstance, has what they need to succeed. That is a legacy worth celebrating — and one we are proud to support.

DAUPHIN ISLAND

Distance from Tillman’s Corner: ~45 minutes
Nestled at the mouth of Mobile Bay, Dauphin Island is Alabama’s only barrier island and a haven for those seeking calm, nature-rich surroundings. The island is only 14 miles long but packed with history, wildlife and picturesque views.

What Makes It Unique:

• Birdwatcher’s Paradise: Dauphin Island is a globally recognized birding hotspot. The Audubon Bird Sanctuary features over 130 acres of maritime forest, freshwater swamps and beach dunes where migratory birds stop each season.

• History Buffs Welcome: The island is home to Fort Gaines, a well-preserved Civil War-era fort that played a key role in the Battle of Mobile Bay. Kids and adults alike enjoy the cannon firings, blacksmith demonstrations and living history tours.

• Marine Science Meets Fun: The Alabama Aquarium (formerly the Estuarium) introduces guests to the ecosystems of the Mobile-Tensaw Delta, Mobile Bay and the Gulf of Mexico— perfect for curious minds of all ages.

• The Beach, of course: The main beach is spacious, bustling and beautifully maintained, with beach chair rentals, volleyball courts and lifeguards on duty during peak times.

• Gulf State Park: One of the region’s crown jewels, the park includes two miles of white sand beaches, 28 miles of hiking and biking trails, a modern lodge and the longest fishing pier on the Gulf of Mexico.

• Family Fun Galore: From Waterville USA to mini golf, escape rooms and the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo, there are endless options for kids and teens.

• Dining & Nightlife: Iconic beachside restaurants like The Hangout and LuLu’s serve up seafood, music and a fun atmosphere right on the water.

• Perdido Pass & Alabama Point: This picturesque area is perfect for fishing, boating or watching boats come and go. It’s also a prime snorkeling spot

• The Wharf: A lifestyle center featuring shops, dining, a Ferris wheel and an amphitheater with national acts. Catching a concert after a beach day is the perfect combo.

• Luxury Meets Nature: Orange Beach is known for its high-end beachfront condos, but it also backs up to protected wilderness, offering opportunities to kayak through Backcountry Trail waterways and spot local wildlife.

Pro Tip: Book a sunset sail with a local catamaran company—dolphins almost always make an appearance.

FORT MORGAN

Distance from Tillman’s Corner:
~1 hour 45 minutes

Tucked away at the tip of the peninsula west of Gulf Shores, Fort Morgan is both a historic landmark and a hidden beach destination. With fewer crowds and wide-open views, it’s ideal for those looking to unplug.

• Historic Fort Morgan: Built in 1834, this massive masonry fort saw action in multiple conflicts, most famously during the Civil War. Its tunnels, ramparts and panoramic views make it fun to explore.

• Secluded Beaches: Unlike the bustling shores of Gulf Shores, the beaches here are quiet, natural and often feel like your own private slice of paradise.

• Wildlife Encounters: The beach is part of the Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge, where you might see nesting sea turtles in summer or migratory birds in spring or fall.

• Rustic Beauty: Don’t expect high rises here—just dunes, sea oats and the rhythmic sound of waves. It’s perfect for reading, relaxing or taking long, uninterrupted walks.

BON SECOUR
NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE

While not your typical beach destination, Bon Secour is a coastal sanctuary that offers a deeper connection to nature. “Bon Secour” means “safe harbor,” and that’s exactly what it is—for wildlife and humans alike.

• Hiking & Nature Trails: The Jeff Friend Trail and Pine Beach Trail take visitors through maritime forests, freshwater swamps and out to dune-lined beaches. It’s a hidden gem for birding, photography or quiet reflection.

• Conservation in Action: This is a nesting site for the endangered Alabama beach mouse and several species of sea turtles. Conservation efforts here are nationally recognized.

• Beach Access without the Buzz: The beach at the end of the Pine Beach Trail is wild and remote—no facilities, no crowds, just you and the ocean.

The Heartbeat of Community Engagement

At the Southwest Mobile County Chamber of Commerce, our mission is built on connection, service, and support for local businesses—and no group embodies this better than our Chamber Diplomats.

The Diplomat Program is a volunteer initiative made up of passionate business representatives who serve as the welcoming face of the Chamber at events, programs, and community outreach efforts. These individuals go above and beyond their professional roles to serve as liaisons between the Chamber and its partners, fostering strong relationships and helping to grow a vibrant business network throughout our region.

Diplomats play a key role in a wide range of activities, from greeting attendees at ribbon cuttings and luncheons, to helping new partners feel welcomed and informed, to supporting large-scale community events like Kids Day and First Responders Week. They are ambassadors of goodwill who help build the strong, personal connections that set our Chamber apart.
