Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area (SVRA), often called the gem of the Central Coast, is a stunning 5 mile stretch of beach and roughly 700 acres of pristine sand dunes offering a wide variety of recreational opportunities. As the only state park in California that permits you to drive, camp, off-road, and recreate in your vehicle, it creates a unique and spectacular way to experience this one-of-a-kind coastline! Enjoy cruising the beach, bonfires, surfing, fishing, dune exploration, ATV riding, whale watching, kite surfing, clamming, horseback riding, and camping. It’s no wonder it’s a must see & do while on the Central Coast!
Dune Adventures
Oceano Dunes SVRA is an off-road enthusiast’s dream! For just $5 for a day visitors can enjoy exploring Oceano’s vast backyard playground. Discover the dunes in your own 4x4 or Off Highway Vehicle. No OHV of your own? Rent Dune Buggies, ATV’s, & Side by Sides at the nearby Rental Companies. Want to sit back and enjoy the ride? Book your seat in a real Humvee and enjoy their mild to wild tour experience.
Historic Oceano Train Depot
Step back in time at the historic Oceano Train Depot. Built in 1904, this was once the most important building in SLO County. It now houses train memorabilia, artifacts, and collections from around Oceano and South County over the decades. Take a guided tour through the museum, caboose, and grounds. Be sure to ask about the fascinating Dunites while viewing the last remaining Dunite Cabin!
Oceano Dunes District Visitor Center
Learn about Oceano’s beach and dunes, local flora & fauna, marine life, and Chumach heritage and view one of the very first Dune Buggies made to traverse the dunes in the 1950s! Their gift shop features local apparel, books, gifts, and more. Sign up for the Adventures with Nature app as you tour around the Visitor Center and nearby Guiton Trail.

Tour the last remaining Dunite Cabin and discover their unique way of life living off the land and sea. Located at the Oceano Train Depot grounds.
