The Chamber’s brand promise, our north star in serving our members and our community, states simply that “We’re Here for Business.”

The expanded version of that promise includes a commitment to connect, inform, and influence. We promise to help any business that comes through our doors (physical or digital). Above all, our goal is to assist local businesses to succeed because we know that leads to vitality for our entire community.

Applications now open for Leadership Santa Maria Valley Class of 2024!

Leadership Santa Maria Valley is currently accepting applications for the Class of 2024. This will be our 29th year serving our Community and preparing future Community Leaders!

Why should you consider Leadership Santa Maria Valley? If you are looking for a way to get more involved in the community, would like to be able to network/connect with the decision makers and key leaders in our area, and further develop your leadership skills, then Leadership Santa Maria Valley is the program for you!

LSMV is a 10-month leadership program designed to foster and create future community leaders. The program allows participants to increase their understanding of local issues, challenges, and solutions while expanding their personal and professional networks and refining their leadership skills. Each Class gives back to the community with their own unique Legacy Project. Founded in 1995, LSMV has over 400 graduates serving in a variety of leadership roles in the government, service and business sectors today.

Students engage and interact with community and civic leaders in areas of Military/Aerospace, Arts and Recreation, Public Safety and Justice, Youth and Education, Health and Human Services, Business and Economic Development, Government, Sustainability and Natural Resources, and Agriculture. The unique mix of monthly day-long seminars and small class atmosphere give participants an unprecedented opportunity to learn about the issues facing their community and to engage with civic leaders.

Successful communities and businesses require strong leadership. If you are ready to be part of the solution and leadership of the community, please consider joining Leadership Santa Maria Valley.

Leadership Santa Maria Valley Class of 2023: Making Connections & Growing as Leaders

Leadership Santa Maria Valley (LSMV) is a community-based leadership development program managed by the Santa Maria Valley Chamber.

The 11 month program is designed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the community, the issues it faces, and the opportunities available for positive change. The program also includes leadership speakers and a class project, which provide participants the opportunity to grow their own leadership skills.

We spoke with some LSMV’s class members to see how the program has helped them grow as leaders.

Joyce Melena, Corporate Trainer at Community Health Centers, said she wanted to be in the program to receive more management and leadership training and also build her professional network.

“Making meaningful connections with various local leaders not just within my class but out in the community has been a huge benefit of LSMV,” Melena said. “The program has also gotten me out of my comfort zone, and I’m learning how to be around very successful people, and not being intimidated by their success. This program definitely helped me feel more confident in my abilities as a leader.”

Kelli Padilla, Senior Community Engagement Coordinator at the Foodbank of Santa Barbara County, said she was interested in the program because she wanted to connect with local leaders and learn more about what the Santa Maria Valley community has to offer.

“It’s important for the community to offer this program because it allows for individuals to grow within the community and become a part of something larger,” Padilla said. “I would encourage others to apply for the program because it has really helped me grow professionally as well as personally. I have made some great connections and made wonderful friends. Also, it is an opportunity to give back to the community.”

“I encourage everyone looking for a professional development opportunity to consider Leadership Santa Maria Valley,” Melena said. “Just put yourself out there, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain by joining this program.”

Leadership Santa Maria Valley’s class of 2023 is currently in session. Applications for the 2024 class will open later this year. Interviews will be held in July 2024, and the 2024 Candidate Orientation and Kick-Off Retreat is scheduled for August 2024.

Santa Maria Valley Chamber Launches Updated Website

The Santa Maria Valley Chamber of Commerce has updated its website, www.santamaria.com, which emphasizes the organization’s efforts in advocacy, education and workforce, and business support. The site offers a variety of resources for businesses and community members in the Santa Maria Valley.

“As champions for our Santa Maria Valley community, we know it’s important to have a website that is modern and makes it easy to access the array of resources, programs and information the Chamber offers,” explained Molly Schiff, Director of Member & Community Engagement for the Santa Maria Valley Chamber. “We feel this refresh of our website provides easier access to some of the programming and resources we have available in the areas of workforce development and advocacy, as well as our frequently-viewed pages including our events calendar and member directory.”

The site also features a searchable local business directory, and news feed with the latest community news from the Chamber and their 800-plus business members. You can also find information on local upcoming events and various networking opportunities the Chamber offers.
