Our Wizard of Oz themed Garmin Olathe Marathon is more than just a race; a munchkin run and senior walk help us offer something for everyone at our annual race in early spring. The city sponsored Olathe Live! events take place throughout the spring, summer and early fall, bringing live music to the downtown area. The crown jewel of Olathe’s downtown renaissance is the Olathe Chamber and Olathe Convention & Visitors Bureau sponsored Fourth Friday celebrations throughout the summer with kids’ activities, live bands, food trucks and much, much more. Finally, when the leaves start to fall, the KC Pumpkin Patch is the place to be on autumn weekends.

Fourth Fridays

The Fourth Friday series has become a family friendly summer tradition in Olathe. This free event offers live music, kids’ activities, food trucks, beer gardens and more.

Old Settlers

In existence for more than 120 years, the three-day event includes: carnival, parade, concerts, food booths, arts and crafts, and commercial booths.

Qlathe

Sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society, the Qlathe BBQ Championship features a $10,000 prize purse with judging in chicken, pork ribs, pork and brisket.

Between Santa Fe and Dennis on Ward Cliff Road

The beautiful Lake Olathe Park is located on the west side of town and features a 170-acre lake surrounded by 258 acres of community park space. It includes amenities for a variety of fun outdoor activities for all ages, including a swim beach and marina, spray ground, aquapad, playgrounds, Lakeside Hills Disc Golf Course, Eagles Landing event space, more than three miles of trails and much more.

Fourth Fridays in downtown Olathe

The annual Fourth Friday celebrations are back in downtown Olathe every summer. Food trucks line Cherry Street from Sante Fe all the way down to Loula. Our Business Expo event will be along Cherry Street between Loula and Cedar featuring local vendors selling unique items and promoting their businesses. Don’t forget the beer garden, face painters, balloon artists and other family games near Park and Cherry.

Stagecoach Stop and Farm

Take a step back in time and visit the last working stagecoach stop along the historic Santa Fe Trail. See what it was like in 1865 when the limestone farmhouse was built, and revel in the past.

Fun Fact!

Today, Mahaffie is one of the few stagecoach stops left on the Santa Fe Trail, and the only one preserved as a public historic site.

There are 45 neighborhood parks, 57 miles of trails within the city limits, 18 miles of bike lanes and nearly 30 miles of shared roadway. And with that, there’s no way you can go wrong anywhere in Olathe. Start your outdoor adventure at the newly renovated Lake Olathe. The 258-acre park that surrounds the 170-acre lake features a marina, swimming beach, aqua pad, an inflatable water course and nearly three miles of paved walking/biking trails. To the south is Cedar Lake Park that will soon connect with Lake Olathe with a four-mile paved trail. To the north is Cedar Niles Park that offers visitors a stroll through native grasses and nature preserves. Its four-mile trail will eventually connect with Lake Olathe, as well.
