occasional pick-up. More information is available at LRSrecycles.com/NorthbrookCompost.
Single-Use Bag Tax
Remember your reusable bag! To discourage use of disposable bags, Northbrook requires retailers over
3000 square feet to collect a 10-cent tax on most single-use paper or plastic bags used at customer
checkouts. Half of the monies collected are retained by the business, while the other half supports
Village sustainability initiatives.
Avoid the charge and help the environment by bringing along a reusable bag whenever you shop.
Lawn Care Regulations
To promote water conservation, lawn watering is prohibited weekdays between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. from May
15 to
September 15.
Gas-powered leaf blowers may not be used from December to March and May to September.
Landscapers and residents may use gas-powered leaf blowers during a four-week spring clean-up window
(April 1 to April 30) and eight-week fall clean-up window (October 1 to November 30). These regulations,
created in cooperation with other North Shore communities, are intended to reduce both noise pollution
and carbon emissions.
