Healing the Future: How Southwest Riverside County’s Healthcare Industry
Is Growing to Meet the Moment
By Patrick Ellis
From new towers to trailblazing technology, hospitals across the region are
expanding access, innovation and care for a healthier tomorrow.
Southwest Riverside County is home to some of the finest healthcare facilities in the Inland Empire, a
network of hospitals and medical professionals delivering world-class care close to home. Yet, as our
region continues to grow at a remarkable pace, the demand for healthcare services is outpacing supply.
The good news? Our local hospitals and healthcare partners are rising to meet that challenge, expanding
capacity, embracing innovation and investing in the well-being of a rapidly growing community.
Despite the progress, the region remains underserved - a challenge local leaders and healthcare
providers are tackling head-on with bold investments and visionary plans that put access, wellness and
innovation front and center.
Southwest Healthcare: Building Excellence Close to Home
Rancho Springs and Inland Valley Hospitals lead with heart, innovation and community care.
Southwest Healthcare’s two cornerstone facilities, Rancho Springs Hospital in Murrieta and Inland
Valley Hospital in Wildomar, are redefining what local care can be.
Rancho Springs is home to the largest Family Birth Center in the region, welcoming thousands of new
lives each year. Its nationally recognized maternity care program has earned top marks from U.S. News &
World Report, while its partnership with Rady Children’s Health provides the region’s only
Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Families also benefit from the only pediatric emergency
department staffed by Rady Children’s specialists — ensuring care designed specifically for
kids, right here at home.
Beyond maternity and pediatric care, Rancho Springs is also an Advanced Certified Primary Stroke Center
and a da Vinci® Robotic Xi Surgical System Center of Excellence, offering minimally invasive
precision for faster recoveries. Its recent national recognition for excellence in COPD care further
underscores its dedication to comprehensive patient wellness.
Meanwhile, just a few miles away, Inland Valley Hospital stands as the region’s only Level II
Trauma Center, a vital resource for emergency preparedness and lifesaving care. The hospital is also
home to the region’s only Total Joint Center, certified by The Joint Commission for excellence in
joint replacement surgery. Add in its award-winning bariatric surgery program, COPD recognition and
plans for a seven-story patient tower opening in 2026, and it’s clear: Inland Valley is not just
keeping pace, it’s setting the pace.
Loma Linda University Medical Center–Murrieta: Expanding Access with
Purpose
As our community grows, Loma Linda University Medical Center–Murrieta (LLUMC) is expanding both
inside and outside its hospital walls. The facility recently gained approval to add 15 new inpatient
beds, a seemingly modest number that will make a meaningful impact on local capacity and patient
care.
But perhaps even more transformative is what’s happening across the street: construction is
slated to begin this fall on a 24-hour advanced urgent care center staffed entirely by emergency
medicine-trained clinicians. This new facility will handle lower-acuity cases, helping families get care
quickly and easing emergency department demand.
“It starts with building our own competencies, creating access and being able to
specialize,” says Jonathan Jean-Marie, Senior Vice President and Administrator of LLUMC Murrieta.
The project is expected to open within 18 months, a testament to Loma Linda’s mission-driven
commitment to accessible, high-quality healthcare.
Kaiser Permanente: Investing in the Future of Wellness
Across Riverside County, Kaiser Permanente is setting a new standard for integrated, community-focused
healthcare. Serving nearly 600,000 members in the region, Kaiser’s upcoming projects are as
visionary as they are vital.
The centerpiece: a state-of-the-art hospital tower at Riverside Medical Center, opening in 2027,
featuring 150 new beds, an expanded emergency room, and advanced neonatal and surgical centers. South of
there, a new Medical Office Building in Menifee will soon deliver convenient, modern primary care closer
to home.
Kaiser Permanente is also investing in long-term health for all, committing $10 million over five years
toward a groundbreaking Blue Zone initiative with partners like Riverside University Health System,
Inland Empire Health Plan and Molina Healthcare. The goal? To make Riverside County a certified
“Blue Zone”
a community where healthy living, longevity and vitality are part of the
local culture.
Temecula Valley Hospital: High-Tech Healing Meets Heartfelt Care
Part of Southwest Healthcare, Temecula Valley Hospital (TVH), continues to expand its facilities and
its reputation for excellence. Its multi-phase master plan, approved in 2025, includes two medical
office buildings, a five-story hospital tower with 140 beds, a relocated helipad for faster emergency
response and sustainability-focused design elements like drought-tolerant landscaping and EV
infrastructure.
TVH’s achievements are equally impressive: national recognition for cardiac and stroke care,
robotic lung cancer treatment and a 100th WATCHMAN™ procedure milestone for stroke prevention in
AFib patients. Through its Graduate Medical Education program, the hospital is also training the next
generation of physicians, ensuring our region’s healthcare future is homegrown.
Beyond medicine, TVH remains deeply engaged in the community, from wellness fairs and veteran outreach
to student mentorship and Chamber partnerships, proving that world-class care can also be
neighborly.
Rady Children’s Health Services: Champions for the Next
Generation
When it comes to children’s health, few names carry the trust and excellence of Rady
Children’s Health a premier pediatric healthcare system uniting the expertise of Rady
Children’s Hospital–San Diego and Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC).
Together, their growing network of hospitals, specialty centers, and clinics spans six counties,
including a strong presence in Southwest Riverside County through partnerships with local hospitals like
Rancho Springs, where Rady specialists provide life-saving neonatal and pediatric care.
With three hospitals and two Level I Pediatric Trauma Centers, Rady Children’s Health is
dedicated to ensuring that every child, from newborns to teens, receives the highest level of medical
care, compassion, and innovation close to home.
The Rady Children’s Health network continues to earn national recognition for clinical
excellence, research, and patient care:
• Rady Children’s Hospital–San Diego was named to the U.S. News & World Report
“Best Children’s Hospitals Honor Roll” (2025–2026).
• Both Rady and CHOC ranked among the nation’s Best Children’s Hospitals by U.S. News
& World Report for 2025–2026.
• The Joint Commission accredited all hospitals within the network for their commitment to safety
and quality (2024).
• Specialty certifications include asthma and pediatrics (CHOC, 2025) and nursing and home care
centers (Rady, 2024).
• Both hospitals achieved Magnet® designation for nursing excellence, one of the most
prestigious honors in healthcare.
• Their leadership in emergency and critical care has been recognized with the Emergency Nurses
Association Lantern Award, the Beacon Award for Excellence, and Center of Excellence status from the
Extracorporeal Life Support Organization.
What truly sets Rady Children’s Health apart is its partnership-driven model-collaborating with
regional hospitals, physicians, and community organizations to expand pediatric access across Southern
California. Locally, that means families in Murrieta, Wildomar, and surrounding communities can receive
top-tier care for children without having to travel hours away.
A Healthier, Stronger Southwest Riverside County
From Rancho Springs’ family-centered beginnings to Kaiser’s sweeping investments and Loma
Linda’s access expansion, one thing is clear: Southwest Riverside County is no longer waiting for
healthcare to catch up, it’s leading the way.
These hospitals and partners aren’t just building new towers or launching new programs.
They’re building a future where residents can live longer, healthier and more connected lives
right here in our own backyard.
