Bringing the Meadowlands Vision to Life

Local leaders established the Meadowlands 2040 Foundation with a shared vision for the region’s future. This forward-thinking group addresses not only economic development but also crucial aspects like infrastructure, mobility, education, and workforce development.

The 2040 Foundation, in collaboration with the Meadowlands Chamber, supports workforce training programs for business growth, as well as job creation to enhance the region’s success and quality of life. The Meadowlands Chamber has a robust high school internship program to help guide the next generation as they embark on a university and career path.

Powering Economic Growth

Between MetLife Stadium, the Meadowlands Racetrack, and American Dream, the Greater Meadowlands Region is always making bank – and big headlines. The region will benefit in a big way from MetLife Stadium hosting several FIFA World Cup 2026 games, including the final on July 19, 2026. Our part of this 48-nation, 104-game tournament is expected to bring some $2 billion to the state.

Strategic access to global trade and transportation hubs gives the Meadowlands region exceptional resiliency to persevere even during unprecedented challenges, like the COVID-19 pandemic. Located just a few miles outside of New York City, the bustling area comprising the Greater Meadowlands Region is among the powerful economic drivers of the Northeast megalopolis, also known as the Northeast Corridor or Boston–Washington corridor. Through a partnership with Hudson County Community College, students gain paid internships and real-world experience. They’ve contributed to major projects like the Frank J. Hudson County’s location already makes it a hub for finance, logistics, healthcare, and technology. And bigger opportunities are coming. In 2026, the FIFA World Cup will put the region on the global stage. MetLife Stadium will host matches, with an expected six million fans across North America—450,000 visitors per host city.

From local roots to global reach. Hudson Kitchen, a membership-based commercial kitchen, has created over 200 jobs since 2018 while attracting global attention. Founder Djenaba Johnson-Jones credits HCEDC with guidance, training, and connections to lending partners. “That support opened doors I didn’t even know existed,” she says. Hudson Kitchen proves how local resilience translates into regional and global strength.

New Jersey’s business community plays a pivotal role in our regional and national economies. The Garden State is perfectly situated along the Northeast Corridor between two major metropolitan areas, with complete access to some of the nation’s largest airports and shipping ports. But aside from our prime location, New Jersey, under Gov. Phil Murphy’s leadership, has made major investments to support small and mid-sized businesses. In fact, since the start of the Murphy Administration, nearly 60,000 new small businesses have opened. Additionally, CNBC named New Jersey as the most-improved state in the country for business.

Small businesses, which have long served as the backbone to New Jersey’s economy, were hit hard during the pandemic. During the height of the pandemic, the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) helped businesses keep their doors open, and in the years since, has helped mom-and-pop shops grow and expand their businesses. With the pandemic behind us, the NJEDA has been committed to creating a solid economic foundation focused on inclusivity, long-term resiliency, and equitability.

The Main Street Recovery Program, a comprehensive suite of products created under the Economic Recovery Act, has become an essential tool to help small businesses thrive across the state. Since the program launched in 2021, the NJEDA made nearly 4,000 approvals for grants, loans, and technical assistance for small businesses totaling $132 million.

The Main Street Program created several products including, the Small Business Improvement Grant, Main Street Micro Business Loan, and E-Commerce Support Program. The $15 million Small Business Improvement Grant reimburses small businesses for the purchase and installation of new furniture, fixtures, and equipment. The Main Street Micro Business Loan allows early-stage micro businesses to access up to $50,000 in financing, while the E-Commerce Support Program helps expand a business’s online presence. Together, these programs have injected millions of dollars of capital into New Jersey’s main streets and have helped small businesses succeed.

In an effort to strengthen New Jersey’s supply chain, the NJEDA launched the New Jersey Manufacturing Voucher Program (MVP). The $53 million MVP provides manufacturers vouchers to purchase equipment they need to improve their operations and upgrade their businesses. Through the MVP, the NJEDA is working to ensure companies have the resources and capital needed to continue making products used by consumers domestically and abroad, which in turn will grow and strengthen the state’s economy.

As part of Governor Murphy’s economic development strategy to reclaim New Jersey’s role as a leader in innovation, the NJEDA has created the New Jersey Innovation Evergreen Fund (NJIEF), a groundbreaking tool to increase access to venture capital. This unique fund will ensure more innovative companies start, grow, and stay in New Jersey. To date, the NJEDA Board has approved 12 venture capital firms as Qualified Venture Firms, allowing them to access up to $12.5 million annually per investor from the NJIEF to co-invest in innovative, high-growth New Jersey-based businesses. The Fund will also create mentoring, networking and educational opportunities to help position New Jersey companies for success.

Visioning the Future: Why the Meadowlands Needs

a Convention Center

At the Meadowlands Chamber of Commerce, our mission is clear: Drive business growth and build a sustaining regional economy. But fulfilling that mission requires more than just reacting to today’s challenges—it demands that we look ahead, envision what’s possible, and build a roadmap to get there. That’s why visioning the future isn’t just a strategic exercise for us—it’s the foundation of our advocacy.

We believe that the most impactful economic development begins with a bold vision. And right now, our boldest vision is centered on transforming the Meadowlands Sports Complex into a true destination hub by building a world-class multi-use convention center.

This isn’t just a dream—it’s backed by data. A comprehensive Market Analysis and Economic Impact Report conducted in 2022 and again in 2025, concluded that a convention center at the Meadowlands could generate $30 billion in economic impact over 30 years. That’s not just a number—it’s a signal. It tells us that the destination-related economy is not only growing, but it’s becoming one of the most promising segments of our regional economic landscape.

The Meadowlands region already has the bones of a great destination. We’re home to MetLife Stadium which attracts the world’s biggest events, the American Dream Retail & Entertainment Center, the Meadowlands Racetrack and a dense network of hotels, restaurants and transportation infrastructure. What we lack is the connective tissue—a convention center that can anchor large-scale events, attract national and international visitors, and catalyze year-round economic activity.

They create jobs—not just in hospitality, but in logistics, marketing, tech and more. A multi-use convention center would allow us to host trade shows, industry summits, cultural expos, and youth & amateur sporting events that currently bypass our region. It would complement existing assets and unlock new opportunities for growth.

Housed within the NJ Department of State, our team of business advocates answers the calls for help from businesses every day in order to make New Jersey a great place to do business. Recognizing the vital role that local businesses play in creating jobs, driving innovation and fostering economic growth, the NJBAC takes a proactive approach by convening various technical and supportive services offered through distinct offices and specialty areas. The NJBAC aims to streamline processes, provide valuable insights and foster a conducive environment for business growth with comprehensive programs and resources designed to provide assistance, guidance and opportunities for business owners to succeed.

• The Office of Business Advocacy works with mid-large size

businesses looking to expand or relocate in New Jersey

This is the office that cuts the red tape for companies

seeking permitting, financing options, government

navigation, site-selection, training grants, energy efficiency

grants and workforce training. From site selection to

expansion, from resource referrals to permitting assistance,

this office is committed to helping entrepreneurs and

business owners quickly access efficient and relevant

commercial real estate solutions across all industries.

• The Office of Small Business Advocacy provides real time

assistance for start-ups and small businesses seeking

information about registration, annual reports,

certifications, procurement and other business operations.

Support is provided through the helpline, 1-800-JERSEY-7,

and a live chat housed on two websites: Business.NJ.gov

and nj.gov/state/bac/.

-NJBAC worked in collaboration with the New Jersey

Economic Development Authority, the Office of

Innovation, and other community-based partners to

create the NJ Small Business Manual, a comprehensive

resource to help small businesses grow and thrive in New

Jersey. The manual includes information about State and

local permits and inspections, financial assistance

programs, lease contracts, commercial real estate

transactions, and a variety of other topics related to

owning and operating a small business. Available at no

cost in English and Spanish as a download or a print copy.

• The Office of Export Promotion provides essential guidance

and resources for businesses looking to start or expand

their goods and services export offerings. This office is a

Small Business Administration partner, collaborating at the

state level for the New Jersey State Trade Expansion

Program (NJSTEP). NJSTEP provides financial awards

through a competitive process to New Jersey businesses

that are new to export, as well as those businesses who

currently sell their goods and services to other countries.

• NJBAC launched the Cannabis Training Academy

(CTA) in 2024 to support and educate current and

aspiring cannabis business owners as they navigate

the process of establishing a licensed and regulatory-

compliant cannabis business in New Jersey. In

addition to a core curriculum of 60+ online learning

modules, the CTA is now offering an ID Badging

Course to help the New Jersey cannabis industry’s

9,000+ badged employees to stay in compliance with

• Our online Referral Services connect eligible New

Jersey businesses with a mentor or assistance in

establishing or growing their presence on the internet.

To access the services, companies must visit the

NJBAC website (nj.gov/state/bac/) where they will

be referred to a nonprofit that best matches their

search criteria. The mentor-matchmaking service

is open to New Jersey small businesses that have

been in operation for five years or less, while the

internet presence referral service is open to

established New Jersey small businesses at any age

or stage.

• Cybersecurity training, including an easy to use step-

by-step manual, is now available to help businesses of

all types and sizes understand today’s cybersecurity

threats and the best practices businesses of all sizes

can adopt to protect against a breach.
