Rooted in a dynamic history dating back to the 1840s, Lincoln Square Ravenswood has
evolved from a rural farming community into one of Chicago’s most walkable, European-esque
neighborhoods. With inviting plazas, tree-lined streets and welcoming gathering spaces, the community
blends old-world charm with modern vivacity. It features an array of independently owned shops and
restaurants offering cuisine that spans the globe.

art, unique gifts, clothing and treats for your pets—many owned by passionate small business
entrepreneurs. The community also offers hands-on, experiential classes such as pottery making, cooking

Arts and culture thrive here, with destinations like the Old Town School of Folk Music, American Blues
Theater and the historic Davis Theater. Midwest farmers join the mix from May through November when two
weekly Farmers Markets energize the heart of Lincoln Square, while the nearby Ravenswood Corridor boasts
a growing collection of craft breweries and distilleries.
And throughout the year, the neighborhood comes alive with beloved events including Square Roots, Apple
Fest, Wine Strolls and more. Each celebrates the heritage and creative spirit in distinctive ways. Many
of these experiences are thoughtfully produced by the Lincoln Square Ravenswood Chamber of Commerce, a
nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening the local economy and enhancing quality of life.
Through these place-making events, The Chamber drives foot traffic to local businesses while also
offering small businesses marketing support, serving as their chief liaison to City Hall, and by
maintaining public space throughout the community.

About the Chamber
Welcome! We’re proud to introduce the dedicated team and volunteer leaders who
guide the Lincoln Square Ravenswood Chamber of Commerce in support of our vibrant
business community.
At the heart of the Chamber is our professional staff, led by Rudy Flores,
President/CEO, who ensures we fulfill our mission of driving economic growth for businesses across
Lincoln Square Ravenswood. Rudy works alongside a talented team that includes
Ian Tobin, Vice President and Director of Community Development, who manages
district initiatives and serves as a liaison with elected officials; Katie Kraus, Vice
President and Director of Marketing & Communications, who focuses on strengthening member
engagement and visibility; and Nicole Benjamin, Director of Special Events, who
coordinates signature community events like Apple Fest and the Summer Concert Series. Supporting
business growth and engagement are Jeffrey Tabels as Director of Business Engagement,
Richard Sparks as Business Engagement Specialist, and Lisa
Ripson, who leads Public Relations efforts to share the Chamber’s story and spotlight
members.
Our Board of Directors brings strategic insight and community perspective. About the Neighborhood
Welcome to Lincoln Square Ravenswood, one of Chicago’s most
vibrant and inviting North Side communities, where unique local character meets rich history and lively
culture. Nestled within the Chicago city grid, the Lincoln Square community area includes not only
Lincoln Square itself, but also nearby neighborhoods like Ravenswood, Ravenswood Gardens, Budlong Woods,
and Bowmanville – each contributing its own distinct charm to the larger whole.
Originally settled in the 19th century by English and German immigrants drawn by farming and later
commercial enterprises, the neighborhood was formally named Lincoln Square in 1925 in
honor of Abraham Lincoln. Over time, it grew into a bustling residential and commercial district
anchored by the vibrant intersection of Lincoln, Lawrence and Western avenues.
Today, Lincoln Square Ravenswood is known for its walkable streets lined with independently-owned
shops, European-style cafés, diverse restaurants, arts venues and specialty businesses.
Both residents and visitors are drawn to the neighborhood’s small-town feel within a big city,
its welcoming public spaces, and year-round community events like Apple Fest and Square Roots that
celebrate local culture and community spirit.
However you find your way here, Lincoln Square Ravenswood invites you to slow down, explore, and experience one of Chicago’s most welcoming neighborhoods.
Getting Here
Lincoln Square Ravenswood is easy to reach by public transit, bike, or car –
making it convenient for residents, visitors and workers alike.
Public Transit: The neighborhood is served by multiple Chicago Transit Authority (CTA)
Brown Line “L” stations, including Western, Montrose, Damen, and Rockwell, which connect
directly to downtown and other Chicago neighborhoods. Several CTA bus routes also run through the area,
providing additional access options. The Metra Union Pacific North Line stops nearby in Ravenswood for
regional rail access. With so many transit choices, you can arrive here without needing a car.
Bike Access: Lincoln Square Ravenswood supports bicycling as a viable way to get
around. The neighborhood features numerous Divvy bike-share stations, making short
trips to shops, parks, or transit easy and flexible. In addition, the Lincoln Square
Neighborhood Improvement Program (SSA #21) works with community partners to expand bike
infrastructure – including installing bike racks throughout the district and advocating for safer
routes for cyclists of all ages and abilities. As part of this effort, there are plans for a
Leland Avenue Greenway, a low-stress neighborhood connection that will create safer,
calmer bike and pedestrian access near schools and local businesses.
Parking: While the area encourages transit and bike access, drivers will find a
variety of parking options. In addition to metered curbside spaces along Western and Lincoln avenues and
free residential parking in some blocks, several off-street lots provide convenient day-use parking
close to the shops and restaurants that make this neighborhood lively. Surface lots near Lawrence and
Western offer regular spaces, and key municipal lots include:

Our neighborhood is made up of several distinct business corridors, each offering its

independent businesses that make our area such a vibrant destination.
Lincoln Avenue serves as a central hub, lined with a lively mix of restaurants,
boutiques, specialty shops, and neighborhood staples. Just nearby, the Ravenswood
corridor blends charm and creativity, with local makers, small businesses, and a strong sense
of community throughout.
Along Lawrence Avenue, visitors will find an eclectic mix of dining, services, and

Montrose Avenue offers its own collection of shops, cafés, and neighborhood services, with a

COMMUNITY EVENTS
One of the best ways to experience our neighborhood is by joining in on the many
festivals, celebrations and special events hosted throughout the year. From seasonal street fests to
cultural programming and eco-focused gatherings, our community calendar is filled with opportunities to
connect, explore, and make memories.
Spring kicks off with Maifest, a long-running neighborhood tradition, brought to you
by the United German-American Societies of Greater Chicago, which brings residents and visitors together
for live music, food and German culture. Later in the season, Mayfestiversary offers another chance to
celebrate with two local breweries (Dovetail Brewery and Begyle Brewing).
Hosted by St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, Lincoln Square Greek Fest and Greektoberfest celebrate
Greek culture, food, music, and hospitality. Greek Fest brings neighbors and visitors
together each summer for authentic Greek cuisine, live entertainment, dancing, and family-friendly
activities. In the fall, Greektoberfest offers a seasonal twist on the tradition,
combining Greek flavors and cultural experiences with a festive autumn atmosphere.
For those interested in sustainability and community wellness, the 47th Ward’s annual Eco
Fest is an inspiring event focused on green living. With eco-friendly vendors, interactive
activities, and local organizations sharing resources and ideas, it’s a meaningful way to engage
with environmental initiatives close to home. This event is held in Welles Park each spring.
As summer and fall roll in, the neighborhood continues to come alive with events like Thirsty
Ears Festival in August, a unique celebration combining craft beer, live classical music and
local flavor. Chicago’s only classical music street festival is brought to you annually by Access
Contemporary Music.
When autumn arrives, German-American Oktoberfest transforms the neighborhood into a
festive fall destination, featuring seasonal food and drinks, live entertainment and a lively atmosphere
for all ages as well as the annual von Steuben parade down Lincoln Avenue.
Begyle and Dovetail keep the celebration going with Oktoberfestiversary, an additional
opportunity to enjoy the best of the season. Both of their signature events also support The Friendship
Center, helping feed our neighbors.
Beyond the large outdoor festivals, local venues provide year-round programming that adds even more
variety to the neighborhood’s event scene. DANK Haus hosts an ongoing calendar of cultural events,
performances, concerts, exhibits and community gatherings. Meanwhile, Artifact Events features rotating
markets, pop-ups, workshops and special events that highlight local makers and bring people together in
creative ways.
No matter the season, there’s always something happening – making our neighborhood a vibrant place to visit, explore and celebrate all year long.

menus that highlight flavors from around the world. Participating restaurants provide a special
prix-fixe menu for you to choose from. Revisit an old favorite or try a new local gem!
International Women’s Day Market
Lincoln Square Ravenswood is home to more than 50 women-owned businesses, and we love celebrating them!
Our annual International Women’s Day Market brings together local makers, artists, and small
businesses for a special shopping event at Artifact Events in Ravenswood.
Spring Wine Stroll
Sip, sample and stroll your way through Lincoln Square Ravenswood during the Spring Wine Stroll. Local
businesses host wine tastings paired with delicious bites from neighborhood restaurants – making
it the perfect evening to explore, discover new favorites, and enjoy the community.

Lincoln Square Farmers Market: May - November
A beloved neighborhood tradition! Lincoln Square Farmers Market brings fresh produce, flowers, baked
goods and specialty food to the heart of the community twice a week. It’s a can’t-miss stop
for locals and visitors alike.
Summer Concert Series: June - August
Spend a summer evening in Giddings Plaza enjoying live music from talented Chicago musicians. On select
Thursday nights, the plaza fills with great tunes, community energy and the perfect laid-back vibe.
The Great Bake Walk
Calling all sweet tooths! The Great Bake Walk is a one-of-a-kind morning adventure through Lincoln
Square featuring delicious samples from local bakeries and cafés. Come hungry and discover some of the
best treats in the neighborhood.
Square Roots
In partnership with the Old Town School of Folk Music, Square Roots is a signature summer festival on
Lincoln Avenue featuring live world music, local restaurants, craft breweries and market vendors.
It’s a lively celebration of food, culture and community.
FALL EVENTS
Apple Fest
Welcome fall in Lincoln Square with Apple Fest, one of Chicago’s favorite neighborhood festivals!
Enjoy dozens of vendors selling everything from caramel apples to cozy fall finds, plus fresh pies, hot
cider, and plenty of family-friendly fun. This event draws over 70,000 visitors each year.
Lincoln Scared & Ravenswoooood
Bring the kids for a festive afternoon of trick-or-treating throughout Lincoln Square Ravenswood! On
the Sunday before Halloween, the neighborhood transforms into Lincoln Scared and Ravenswoooood as
families visit participating businesses for candy, fun and spooky seasonal surprises.
Fall Wine Stroll
Kick off the holiday shopping season with an evening of wine tastings throughout Lincoln Square
Ravenswood. Participating businesses host wine distributors for samples as guests explore local shops,
restaurants and hidden gems along the way.

Small Business Saturday
Celebrate the season while supporting local! Each year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, Lincoln
Square Ravenswood turns into a holiday wonderland featuring festive decorations, carolers and a tree

CHAMBER BUSINESS EVENTS
The Chamber hosts ongoing business-focused events designed to connect local professionals, strengthen
relationships, and keep our business community informed and engaged. Whether you’re a longtime

Beans & Brews (Monthly Networking Series)
Held monthly at rotating neighborhood cafés, breweries, and gathering spaces, Beans & Brews is a casual
networking event that brings together Chamber members, business owners, and community partners.
It’s a relaxed way to build connections, share ideas, and support local businesses—one cup
(or pint) at a time.
Legislative Series
The Chamber’s Legislative Series connects local businesses with elected officials and civic leaders to discuss policies and issues impacting our neighborhood. These events provide an opportunity to stay informed, ask questions, and engage in thoughtful dialogue about local priorities affecting small businesses and the community.
SSA #21 Neighborhood Improvement Program
A Special Service Area (SSA), also known as a Business Improvement District (BID), is
a locally funded program that enhances and maintains commercial corridors beyond what basic city
services provide. In Chicago, SSAs are created through a partnership between property owners, the City,
and a local service provider – often a chamber of commerce or community organization. Property
owners within the designated district contribute an additional levy, which is reinvested directly into
the neighborhood to improve cleanliness, safety, infrastructure, and overall vitality. The result is a
more welcoming, attractive and economically competitive business environment.
In Lincoln Square, SSA #21 is administered by the Lincoln Square Ravenswood Chamber of Commerce through
the Neighborhood Improvement Program. The SSA plays a central role in shaping the district’s
identity and ensuring it remains a vibrant destination for residents, visitors and businesses alike.
Investments are highly visible and impactful – from sidewalk planters and landscaping to public
art installations and seasonal décor that enhance the neighborhood’s character and charm.
Beyond aesthetics, SSA #21 supports strategic initiatives that strengthen the local economy. This
includes customer attraction efforts, commercial vacancy assistance to help fill empty storefronts and
the implementation of the Lincoln Square Master Plan, a community-driven roadmap for long-term growth

infrastructure improvements such as bike racks and pedestrian-friendly amenities.
Ultimately, the SSA is a tool for local control and reinvestment – ensuring that resources generated within the district directly benefit the businesses and community it serves.
