It’s IN Lexington

Located right in the center of South Carolina, just west of the state’s capital in Columbia, Lexington is known for its picturesque landscapes and close-knit community. It has grown into a vibrant town while still retaining its small-town charm and serves as the county seat of Lexington County. The town offers a mix of modern conveniences with historical significance, making it a welcoming destination for both residents and visitors.

With history dating back to the late 1700s, Lexington has seen significant growth in recent decades due to its proximity to Columbia and its appeal to families and professionals. Over the past three decades, the population has steadily increased, thanks in part to its strong educational systems, a variety of local businesses, and

excellent parks and recreation facilities. With easy access to Lake Murray and a variety of outdoor activities, the area has become an attractive place for those seeking a balance between suburban living and access to city amenities.

Lexington’s downtown has experienced a renewed vibrancy, fueled by the development of the Icehouse Amphitheater and the Market at Icehouse. These venues attract thousands of people annually for concerts, community and civic events, and local religious gatherings, providing residents with opportunities to create meaningful memories throughout the year – during autumn, spring, and the holiday season. Additionally, a diversity of restaurants, retailers and entertainment venues have relocated to the area. A new hotel on Main Street will break ground soon.

HEALTH CARE

Exceptional health care services are the cornerstone of our community. Lexington offers access to a comprehensive network of health care providers who are conveniently located within Lexington County and the broader Midlands region. This includes, but is not limited to, major hospitals, a dedicated pediatric hospital, a rehabilitation hospital (www.lexingtonscrehab.com), specialized centers for cancer and cardiac care, community medical centers, and urgent care facilities.

Two major health care systems, Lexington Medical Center (www.lexmed.com) and
Prisma Health (www.prismahealth.org),
provide comprehensive care to its residents.

Lexington Medical Center

Lexington Medical Center is a 607-bed teaching hospital in West Columbia, South Carolina. It anchors a health care network that includes six community medical centers and employs a staff of more than 8,700 health care professionals.

The hospital was ranked best hospital in the Columbia Metro by U.S. News & World Report, was named one of the “Best Places to Work in South Carolina” by SC Biz News, and was the first hospital in the state to achieve Magnet with Distinction status for excellence in nursing care.

Lexington Medical Cancer Center is an accredited Cancer Center of Excellence and has a clinical research and education affiliation with MUSC Hollings Cancer Center. The network includes a cardiovascular program recognized by the American College of Cardiology as South Carolina’s first HeartCARE Center. The network also has an occupational health center, the largest skilled nursing facility in the Carolinas, an Alzheimer’s care center and nearly 80 physician practices. Lexington Medical Center operates one of the busiest Emergency departments in South Carolina, treating nearly 100,000 patients each year. The hospital delivers more than 4,000 babies each year and performs more than 25,000 surgeries.

Prisma Health

Prisma Health is a private, nonprofit health company with more than 32,000 team members, 19 acute and specialty hospitals, 3,131 licensed beds, 320 practice sites, and more than 5,900 employed and independent clinicians across its clinically integrated inVio Health Network. Prisma Health is a new kind of clinically integrated network—a group of health care providers led by physicians and designed to provide patients with the best possible care.

Prisma Health Baptist Parkridge Hospital has been providing compassionate, high-quality, and safe care to its neighbors in northwest Columbia since 2014. This full-service community hospital specializes in a range of inpatient and outpatient services, including cardiology, neurosciences, oncology, orthopedics, surgery, and women’s care. Additionally, the surrounding campus houses several specialty programs and facilities. Among many other accolades, Parkridge has consistently earned an “A” in patient safety grades since it opened.

Beyond Parkridge, Prisma Health operates three additional Midlands’ hospitals:  Prisma Health Baptist, Prisma Health Richland, and Prisma Health Tuomey in Sumter. The Richland campus also is home to the state’s only free-standing heart hospital, the Midlands’ only children’s hospital—Prisma Health Children’s Hospital–Midlands—and a behavioral health hospital. Expanding its reach, Prisma Health also operates family medicine, internal medicine, and orthopedics facilities across Lexington County and has recently established multiple urgent care centers throughout Lexington County and the Midlands.

The Lexington Chamber & Visitors Center

For over 65 years, the Lexington Chamber and Visitors Center has fostered a thriving business community. Since 1959, we have played a pivotal role in supporting the growth and development of Lexington, South Carolina, by serving as a hub for local businesses. As the leading organization for business development and community engagement, the Chamber strives to create a pro-business environment through advocacy, networking opportunities, and resource sharing for both new and established businesses.

We offer a wide array of services to help local businesses thrive, including business development programs, leadership councils, marketing support, and educational seminars aimed at fostering economic success. Representing over 700 businesses, the Chamber provides a platform for owners and employees to connect, learn, and grow within the local business community. We empower our members to save money through collaborative efforts, utilize Chamber resources to enhance their businesses, and advocate for a positive business environment through engagement with elected officials.

As an integral part of the Chamber’s mission, the Lexington Business Alliance Foundation plays a vital role in serving and advancing our community. The Foundation focuses on cultivating prosperity and growth, enhancing the quality of life through youth, non-profit, and leadership initiatives, and collaborating with other organizations to make a positive impact.

The Chamber hosts annual events that showcase the best of Lexington. LEXPO, the largest business trade show in the county, provides businesses with a valuable platform to showcase their latest products and services.

Dining on the Dam, a truly spectacular event, features a catered dinner with live music for over a thousand guests on the iconic Dreher Shoals Dam, offering breathtaking sunset views of Lake Murray.

In addition to its focus on supporting local businesses, the Chamber serves as an invaluable resource for visitors to the area. The Visitors Center provides comprehensive information on local attractions, events, dining options, shopping and more, making it the ideal first stop for newcomers to our community. Whether you are exploring the Town of Lexington for the first time or hosting out-of-town guests, the knowledgeable staff at the Visitors Center is available to provide helpful guidance and recommendations to ensure an unforgettable experience.
