Within the pages of this 2024-25 issue of the Hampshire Area Chamber of Commerce Area Guide you will find resources for all your business needs in the Hampshire, Burlington and Pingree Grove areas and beyond. This magazine provides information about shopping options, entertainment, business listings and local government, gathered in one convenient place, designed with you in mind.

Within these pages, we highlight our member businesses and the community events that add so much value to our everyday lives. Please share this magazine and use it to learn more about our community, our resources and our businesses. Additional copies can be obtained from the Hampshire Area Chamber office.

Our Chamber represents three unique villages – each offering a prosperous lifestyle, strong business partners and good neighbors that contribute to a family-friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Hampshire, Burlington and Pingree Grove are growing communities. The new neighborhoods that are under development offer a great opportunity for new customers to engage with our business community. The Hampshire Area Chamber helps connect local businesses with new customers through our events and sponsorship opportunities.

As your partner in business, the Chamber strives to help local businesses grow by providing opportunities to build a network of business partners and increase brand recognition within the community. Sharing events on social media, promoting businesses on our website, providing email blasts and sharing informative newsletters are just some of the ways the Chamber serves as a vital link to new and repeat customers.

I am honored to be able to help spread the word, publicize business specials and share the concerns of our local businesses – helping them to reach customers and serve as a link to local governing agencies for news and information. As the Executive Director, I regularly attend village meetings to stay informed on issues that matter to the business community and to serve as a voice for our business partners.

A Place Where People Come Together

HAMPSHIRE SOCIAL

"Our heart and soul has gone into building Hampshire Social. We love all that it’s become and look forward to the future."

Friends for years, one day Amanda Jones and Danielle Roberts, along with their husbands, decided to combine their energies into a new business, Hampshire Social.

“We are constantly bouncing ideas off each other,” Jones said. “We also love to hear from our customers and visitors. It helps us realize what works and what doesn’t work. Our customers are very important to us, and we value their feedback.”

Hampshire Social is a place where people come together. Amanda and Danielle describe it as a place to not only work remotely in comfort, but also meet with friends. The venue just celebrated its first anniversary.

“We want this to be a place where everyone feels welcome and can enjoy the company of others,” Jones said. “We wanted to combine everything we love. What’s that famous saying – ‘coffee until wine.’”

“We serve coffee, wine, craft beer, charcuterie, pastries, margaritas and our famous smoked Old Fashioneds. We’ve also started serving Bloody Marys.”

Located at 124 S. State St. in Hampshire, the facility allows them to also host private events for up to 50 people, including bridal showers, baby showers, birthday parties, corporate events and even weddings.

“We provide an affordable venue option and enjoy hosting milestone events for our customers,” Jones said. “Hampshire is a rapidly growing village.With growth comes a demand for expanded services, shops and amenities.”

“We have a profound appreciation for the history of Hampshire and want to build our business for its people. We love this town and are excited to be a part of it during a time of transition.”

As small business owners, Jones and Roberts love supporting other small businesses.

“We like staying local. That way our customers can travel to these businesses and experience the atmosphere that these places have to offer,” Jones said.

The pair searched for the perfect coffee roaster for their business. Jones said fate brought them to Roast 808.

“We clicked with Seumas and Anna instantly,” Jones said. “They share our ideals and have supported our vision for Hampshire Social. We worked together to create our custom blend, 124 S. ST8. Our house blend is unique to Hampshire Social and can’t be found anywhere else.”

Wollersheim Winery was the pair’s first winery. Since then, they have collaborated with Cedar Creek Winery and Galena Cellars.

“Our most recent collaboration is one that we’re very proud of,” Jones said. “We teamed up with Black & Gray Brewing Co. (East Dundee, Ill.) to create our very own beer. Heart & Social, a New England IPA, was just released on our one year anniversary.”

“We believe it is extremely important to support local businesses,” Jones said. “Local businesses support the community economically. We would much rather work with ‘mom and pop’ shops over large corporations. Local businesses have a vested and sincere interest in their community, especially in smaller towns.”

Ultimately, Jones and Roberts hope people find a place where they can enjoy the company of others at Hampshire Social.

“The name captures it all: We want to provide a place for people to connect in the Village we all love,” Jones said. “Whether reconnecting with old friends, or meeting new friends, our goal is to create an environment that offers comfort and convenience.”

“Our team members strive to treat our customers like family. We have gotten to know so many of our customers so well, and their stories – that means so much to us! We have also created a family friendly atmosphere for adults and children to enjoy. Having young children ourselves, we know how important it is to have a place where all ages are welcome.”

As the business enters its second year, Jones and Roberts hope to bring additional events to Hampshire Social, along with new collaborations with wineries and breweries.

“Our dream is to expand and bring new things to the community,” Jones said. “We love being able to bring the people in the community together.

“What sets us apart is our ability to connect with our customers. We are very proud to be a business in a village like Hampshire. Our returning customers are the reason why we do what we do. And, of course, a huge thank you to our staff who have become like family. They are all so passionate about Hampshire Social and that means the world to us.”

Both Jones and Roberts hope people leave Hampshire Social with a positive experience.

“We want Hampshire Social to be a place they tell their friends and family about,” Jones said. “Our heart and soul has gone into building Hampshire Social. We love all that it’s become and look forward to the future.”

Village of

BURLINGTON

The Village of Burlington was incorporated in 1906 and is a village with a strong sense of community. Burlington marked its beginnings with a tavern in 1840, a post office in 1846, a general store in 1847 and finally incorporated in 1906. On the growth horizon are many opportunities. Burlington is a quaint, rural community interested in economic development and has a positive image for growth while maintaining the “small-town” character. It is home to 23 businesses and 535 residents.

Improvements to the Village of Burlington have progressed from the alignment of Plank Road and its first stop light, the resurfacing of Main Street, and the total reconditioning of the water tower. Burlington completed updating their Comprehensive Plan and the Village is preparing for all potential growth. The Village of Burlington is looking forward to opportunities to expand while maintaining its small-town character.

As the decades rolled on, W. R. MEADOWS continued to solidify its reputation in the industry. HAMPSHIRE

2023 Set The Stage For Decades of Well-Planned Residential
and Commercial Development in the Village of Hampshire

The Oakstead subdivision on Big Timber across from Lakewood Crossing was updated to meet the demands of today’s homebuyer with 850 lots ready to develop. The Prairie Ridge Subdivision west of Harmony Road was reimagined, providing lots for 2,000 homes for future Hampshire residents. The Tamms Farm subdivision west of Hampshire High School on Big Timber will soon be home to 186 new Hampshire families.

A well-planned Community must have a mix of Residential and Commercial Development in order to meet the needs of current and future residents. In 2023 the Village annexed 350 acres of Industrial and Commercial land with easy access to I-90, and the Hampshire Logistics Park developed 90 additional acres that are shovel-ready for new Industrial or logistics uses. Along with commercial properties already available in Hampshire, the Village is poised to remain one of the fastest-growing Communities in Illinois.

In today’s development world, developers must provide new infrastructure to support their projects, funding millions of dollars of new roads, water and sewer infrastructure and treatment facilities. However, even infrastructure must be maintained and replaced over time, which is a financial obligation of the Village. The Village now maintains a Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) available for review at www.HampshireIL.org. The plan considers the cost to maintain and replace the Village’s Capital Assets, including buildings. The 2024-2026 CIP will include these costs as well as ways to fund these costs.

The Village’s Capital Improvement Plan provides the financial planning necessary to keep our snow plows properly maintained and to purchase new plows as we take on maintenance of more miles with every new development. Now we must focus on a facility capable of housing this equipment and a place for our Public Works personnel to prepare for and manage other operations efficiently and safely in all weather conditions. Along with Infrastructure, funding a new Public Works Facility is the major capital need in 2024.

The Village Board continued its commitment to improving technology in 2023 with the implementation of new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software, improving services to our residents and efficiency of staff time. Hampshire residents received their first water bills from the new system in late 2023 and will continue to see more analytical views of their usage. The My Hampshire App continues to be a convenient and important tool for residents to communicate directly with Village staff responsible for their issues. 2024 ushered in major snow events that challenged our personnel and equipment. The App became an important tool for residents and Emergency Services to communicate directly with our Plow Team about snow blockages and cars parked in the path of plows. Our Plow Team takes great pride in their work.

The Hampshire Police Department made major Technology Improvements in 2023 that will benefit the community in 2024 and for years to come. The Department sought and received a federal grant for a virtual reality de-escalation training facility, the only one of its kind in the Chicago Area. Our Police Officers are now equipped with body cams funded by a State grant, well ahead of the mandated date for body cams in Illinois. New communication tools allow the Hampshire PD to communicate seamlessly with our law enforcement partners in other communities and with Kane County Law Enforcement.

Downtown Hampshire has arrived with Streetscape completed in 2022, Downtown Hampshire welcomed many businesses and more façade improvements in 2023 that provide the character of our community. Thanks to the residents of Hampshire who serve on the Beautification Committee and Business Development Commission for their vision that has come to life. Hampshire residents and the businesses they enjoy give Hampshire the sense of community and small-town charm your elected officials seek.

Family-owned practice with kindness and compassion

At the age of 5, Dr. Katie Stover, DVM, told everyone she wanted to become a veterinarian. Now after years of study, the dream which began in childhood came to fruition as she owns and operates Red Barn Animal Hospital with locations in Gilberts and Hampshire.

Stover grew up around the west side of Elgin, less than 10 miles from the Gilberts location. While in high school, she met her husband, Rob Stover, who introduced her to his cousin, Dr. Thomas Getzelman, the previous owner of the practice.

While in college, Rob suggested she work for Getzelman to gain experience.

“When the timing was right, Dr. Getzelman hired me as a veterinary technician in the very clinics I would end up purchasing from him almost 10 years later,” Stover said.

Stover and her family live in Sycamore, with their four sons: Thomas, 8; Louie, 6; Jocko, 3; and Shane, 6 months. The move eventually allowed Stover to pursue her dream of owning her own veterinary clinic.

“Dr. Getzelman planted the bug in my ear that he was looking to retire in the next couple years in case I had any interest,” Stover said. “After a couple more years of experience for myself, I decided I couldn’t pass up such a wonderful opportunity and decided to start working for Dr. Getzelman in February 2016, and eventually purchased the clinics later that same year.”

Stover incorporated the practices under the name Red Barn Animal Hospital, with the inspiration coming from the Hampshire location being located in a repurposed big red barn.

“It has so much charm and I am a country girl at heart,” Stover said. “The Gilberts location is located only 15 minutes away from Hampshire and at the time of purchase, was operated out of a rented unit in a strip mall.”

In June 2023, Stover completed construction on the new clinic in Gilberts, a location across the street from the former strip mall rented space.

“This larger facility allows us to expand the care we can offer to the growing communities that surround us,” Stover said. “There will be no changes to the Hampshire location, other than now the majority of our surgical procedures will take place out of the Gilberts location. Now both of our locations can offer the same great care with the same charm.”
Team effort
Stover’s staff operates as one veterinarian team, traveling between the two locations which, she said, ensures clients receive the same experience regardless of which location they chose to visit.

“We are able to serve a larger area while keeping client and patient travel times shorter,” she said. “Splitting between two locations continues to allow us to offer a more small clinic feel which tends to be a lot less stressful on clients and patients alike.”

Stover describes the Red Barn Animal Hospital as a family-owned, full-service, two-location small animal veterinary practice, with four full-time and two part-time veterinarians.

“We offer longer-than-normal appointment times as we care deeply about the overall experience of the veterinary visit for both the clients and the patients,” she said. “We work to build lasting relationships with our clients and patients to allow us to work as a team in offering the best individualized care throughout the pet’s lifetime. We love what we do.”

Stover’s staff includes Getzleman, the previous owner who still works two half-day shifts even after selling his business more than seven years ago; Sarah Stone, DVM, full-time veterinarian; Sally Gilbertson, DVM, full-time veterinarian; Anthony Barnstable, DVM, full-time veterinarian; and Ryan Downs, DVM, full-time veterinarian.

“I love working with Dr. Getzelman,” Stover said. “He is such a cool person, full of jokes, and makes every day just a little bit better. He was invaluable the first couple years of ownership offering guidance and support.”

“He continues to help fill in when needed, for example on my latest maternity leave. He gave me one of the coolest opportunities of my life and I am forever grateful for the work he put in creating these clinics, and entrusting their continued success to me. I absolutely love that I can offer him the opportunity to continue doing what he loves on his terms, while also enjoying his retirement.”

Stover said first and foremost, she wants the practice to be known for its kindness and compassion.

“We take the time to ensure the best care is given to our clients and patients,” she said. “We offer gentle handling to scared patients and offer as much support as possible to our clients in need.”

“We offer thorough, individualized preventative care to pediatric up through senior life stages. We offer comprehensive examinations to diagnose and treat many illnesses, and offer in-house diagnostics including bloodwork and x-rays. We offer soft tissue and dental surgeries, with a traveling board-certified surgeon available for advanced procedures when needed. There is not much that we cannot offer our patients.”

Village of

PINGREE GROVE

The Village of Pingree Grove continues to be one of the fastest growing communities in Illinois, with a population of 10,365 at the 2020 Census to a projected 12,000+ by the end of 2024. Located within major transportation thoroughfares – US Rte. 20 on the south, IL Rte. 47 to the West, and IL Rte. 72 to the North – the Village has low taxes, high-quality local government services, and is committed to advancing opportunities for investment, economic opportunity, and community job growth.

Pingree Grove thrives on a sense of community and offers a variety of outdoor recreational opportunities for both active and laid-back lifestyles. The Village boasts over eight miles of bike and pedestrian trails winding throughout the neighborhoods, in addition to providing parks, and active recreational areas including skate park, baseball and soccer fields, and various playgrounds throughout the community. An offering of youth activities is also available in coordination with the Hampshire Park District.

The Village is home to a variety of native and migrating birds — Hawks, Sand Cranes, Bald Eagles, and Bufflehead ducks – seen within our parks, local ponds, or residential backyards; not to mention a protective turtle species!

School District 300 serves the community through Gary D. Wright Elementary and Big Timber Elementary; Hampshire Middle School, and Hampshire High School, all located in Hampshire, and Cambridge Lakes Charter School. Elgin Community College provides local opportunities for higher education, located in nearby Elgin. Central School District 301 serves residents within the Village’s Heritage District.

Annual community events include a Touch-A-Truck, village-wide garage sale, 4th of July celebration, and holiday tree lighting celebration. The Village depends on the time and talents of generous volunteers who sign up to serve in various community event capacities.

Commercial development opportunities are available on four contiguous parcels located at the intersection of IL Route 72 and Reinking Road. Population growth in the surrounding areas has created additional demand for commercial uses. A grocery store, retail pharmacy chain, immediate care center, pet supply retailer, craft supply store, auto parts store and restaurant, are preferred for this location.

The Village’s Business Park, located at US Route 20 and Bell Road, contains 15 parcels ranging from just over one acre to 10 acres with availability for research and development, or limited-scale manufacturing facility opportunities. Adjacent to light industrial uses, the business park lies within the Bell Harrison TIF Redevelopment Project Area.

The Public Works Department provides a full range of municipal services, including maintaining village roadways, parks, and open spaces. Public Works operates a potable water system sourced from deep wells, which is cleaned and treated for safe consumption within the community. The Village also provides wastewater treatment services, which includes the operation of a unique sustainable irrigation system that uses clean wastewater effluent to keep the community green and beautiful, even during dry conditions. In 2023-2024, the village made significant infrastructure investments through the construction of a second water treatment plant and a third well, in addition to current construction of a second wastewater treatment plant. These infrastructure projects were designed to serve the expected growth of Pingree Grove over the next 20 years and will continue to provide essential clean drinking water for our community and the ability to efficiently dispose of waste.

The Village also remains committed to public safety and plans to expand upon its current 16 full-time sworn officers. The Pingree Grove Police Department’s mission is to provide services with integrity and dedication, to preserve life, to enforce the law, and to work in partnership with the community to enhance the quality of life in the Village of Pingree Grove.

Jasso brothers bring breakfast options to Hampshire

Be it breakfast or lunch, Garden Berry Cafe in Hampshire offers guests a traditional American dining experience with a few twists.

The restaurant, located at 199 S. State St. in Hampshire, is open from 7 a.m.-3 p.m. daily.

In February 2023, Jose Jasso, and his brother Martin, decided to open the Hampshire location. The pair also own restaurants under the same name in Vernon Hills and Hinsdale.

Jasso said his brother found the location for their newest venture, and after seeing a need for a restaurant which provided breakfast options, the duo decided to bring their Garden Berry Cafe to Hampshire.

“I’m so happy to be in the community,” Jasso said. “The town is growing. It feels good. I love being part of the community and hope we get business and keep it going.”

The business, family-owned and operated, provides full-service breakfast and lunch options, with a plethora of choices.

Jasso said everything is crafted with the customer in mind, be it a specialty drink, or food options ranging from sweet to savory – with some spice tossed in the mix.

One popular dish offered is Chilaquiles Verdes or Rojos. Other items customers enjoy include the various omelet offerings, as well as the skillets, wraps and French toast.

While the restaurant currently only offers breakfast and lunch, Jasso said they are contemplating adding additional hours, in order to offer Mexican dishes for dinner.

“My goal is to always make people happy,” Jasso said. “I want them to leave with a good experience, and come back for fun and friends.

“We have a lot of different options on the menus, and we hope they find what they like. We expect them to leave after having a good experience.”

The Hampshire location seats approximately 120 people, which means it can accommodate large parties with notice. Jasso said they also offer a catering service for those desiring food for a variety of events.

Jasso said he loves it when people leave happy, saying it makes him feel proud of himself and his team.

He has worked in various family-owned restaurants since he was 15. Much of his family lives in the region and having a restaurant in Hampshire allows him to stay close to them.

“I invite people from the town and surrounding area to come give us a try,” Jasso said. “They won’t be disappointed. There’s choices for everyone.”
