As we dive into 2025, I’m energized by all the possibilities ahead for Glendale and the West Valley. This isn’t just a city on the map — it’s a powerhouse in the making, and we’re positioned to be at the heart of the Valley’s next chapter. The Chamber is here, leading the charge, and we’re not just talking about keeping up; we’re setting the pace for what’s next in business, innovation, and community.

In 2025, the Chamber will be more connected and collaborative than ever as the leading voice for business in our community. For almost 100 years we've been at the forefront of advocating for businesses, creating opportunities, and driving growth. I am excited to build on that legacy, and I truly believe the best is still yet to come.

It’s been a wild political ride these past few years, but now, more than ever, it’s time for us to come together, beyond any divides. At the Chamber, we’re not here to add to the noise. We’re here to be the place where collaboration happens, where fresh ideas are sparked, and where businesses have the resources and support they need to flourish. In 2025, we’re doubling down on being that steady hand and bringing people together for the good of the community.

One project I’m especially excited about is our new Business Incubator — WestVentures. This is a game-changer, and it’s all about supporting early-stage entrepreneurs on the West Side. We’ve teamed up with some incredible partners—Pendergast Elementary School District, Credit Union West, Core Construction, Amazon, Orcutt Winslow, and Blue Cross Blue Shield—to make this happen. This incubator will provide entrepreneurs with the tools, mentorship, and resources they need to thrive. It’s the kind of innovation we’re all about, and it’s just the beginning of what we’ll be driving forward this year.

Our mission is straightforward: bring real, tangible value to our members and the broader community. We’re here to help businesses grow, create jobs, and foster connections where the best ideas collide to make an impact.

Gone are the days of the West Valley being overlooked; the West Valley is leading the way now and into the future. The West Side is the Best Side and Glendale is at the center of it all. Let’s make history together this year!

The Present is a Gift

People keep telling me, “Glendale is up and coming.” And every time, I smile because they’re missing the bigger picture. Glendale isn’t up and coming — it’s already here, and it’s poppin’!

Glendale’s rich history paved the way for everything we enjoy today. Back in the late 1800s, pioneers turned the desert into farmland, creating a community built on resilience and innovation. Strolling through Historic Downtown Glendale or the Catlin Court Historic District, you’ll see that legacy in every brick and boutique.

Today, Glendale shines brighter than ever. We’re a hub for sports, entertainment, and unforgettable experiences from Cardinals games at State Farm Stadium to concerts and Indoor Football at Desert Diamond Arena, where the Arizona Rattlers just won their 7th National Championship Title! The Final Four represented the entire valley, but it happened right here in Glendale! And the Super Bowl? Not just one, but two … in Glendale. The Fiesta Bowl? You guessed it, Glendale!  Where did Taylor Swift kick off her record setting Eras tour? Glendale, Arizona, which was temporarily proclaimed Swift City by the Mayor on March 13, 2023. And where did the 2024 World Series Champions prepare for greatness and go for Spring Training? Camelback Ranch-Glendale, of course!

But Glendale isn’t just about the big events. It’s about everyday treasures. Love shopping? Arrowhead Towne Center, Tanger Outlets, and the Downtown Glendale shops have you covered. A foodie? Glendale’s restaurants feature everything from local favorites like Bitz-ee Mama’s, Charley’s Sports Grill, and Cubanitas Kitchen, to national icons like Fazoli’s, and Portillo’s.

Add in some family fun at Chicken N Pickle, Dave & Busters, and PopStroke, culinary delights and eclectic dining at Sugar Factory and Thirsty Lion Gastropub, or a little nightlife at Stir Crazy Comedy Club, and live music at Westgate Entertainment District … the vibe is electric!

And let’s not forget the fascinating beauty of the desert trails, like Thunderbird Conservation Park offering stunning views, and discovering gems like Wild Hooves Open Hearts where you can connect with wild mustangs. The arts and culture scene, from murals, sidewalk mosaics, and local exhibits to the iconic Glendale Glitters festival and Hometown Parade, reflects the spirit, creativity, and heart of this community.

We aren’t just fun and entertainment, we are the home of major manufacturing plants like Nestlé, Red Bull, and Mark Anthony Brewing (White Claw Hard Seltzers/ Mike’s Hard Lemonade), and a growing list of other global manufacturing companies.

Glendale is proud to be the home of Luke Air Force Base and the Arizona-56th Fighter Wing with over 7,500 military members and 15,000 family members who call Glendale home.

So, when people talk about Glendale’s “potential,” I remind them: look a little closer. Glendale isn’t waiting to arrive — it’s thriving right now. Let’s shift the narrative, Glendale isn’t just up and coming, Glendale is where it’s at now! The West Side is the Best Side, and Glendale is leading the way. The future may be bright, but the present is a gift.

Come see it for yourself. Glendale is in the game, and it’s only getting better. The next time you hear someone speak of Glendale, tell them to put some respect on our name. We aren’t “coming,” we are “here”; and here to stay.

Tremendous Economic Development in the
West Valley

The West Valley Chamber of Commerce Alliance hosted an Economic Development Forum in September with three distinguished panelists, Nate Nathan, CEO of Nathan and Associates, Chris Camacho of Greater Phoenix Economic Council and Jim Rounds, CEO of Rounds Consulting. Each of the panelists has been deeply involved in the dynamic business growth of the West Valley and described the changes they have seen and what they believe is critical to keep attracting large manufacturers and other businesses.

Nate Nathan started off the panel by describing what he has seen in the last 30 years selling land in the West Valley. Originally, it was predominantly farm land, but certain developers realized it would hold the key to growth of the valley given its proximity to the I-10 and the railway service to move products quickly to California and other states. Mr. Nathan showed maps and described in detail how almost all sizable tracts of land in the West Valley have been purchased, many repurchased several times especially in recent years as prices climbed. His message was clear that the West Valley’s supply of vacant land is shrinking because it is so highly desirable.

The second panelist, Jim Rounds, offered an economic overview of the tremendous commercial growth the West Valley is experiencing in terms of new housing construction, employment opportunities and revenue generated from industrial centers, new manufacturing and the movement of new and existing businesses to the area. The data shows that the trends are very positive and likely to continue going forward.

Chris Camacho, CEO and president of the Greater Phoenix Economic Council, provided great insights into what factors have contributed to the West Valley’s growth. He also discussed the need to maintain and improve infrastructure for continued growth in the area. He mentioned that manufacturers have chosen the area because there is sufficient energy, water and transportation available. Mr. Camacho emphasized that continued investment in the state’s energy sources is critical to meet the needs of manufacturers, data centers and other businesses with high energy requirements in the West Valley. He noted that some are constructing their facilities to generate their own solar energy to further increase their supply. He concluded by stating that the public utilities in the state are working hard to increase the available energy and assure adequate back up supplies so that businesses moving to the West Valley will have energy security.

Community Unites to Defeat Proposition 499, Safeguarding Glendale’s Economic Future

In a significant victory for the Glendale community, the Chamber played a pivotal role in defeating Proposition 499, a measure that posed a serious threat to the vibrant economy of Glendale and jeopardized the tremendous growth we've seen in entertainment, sports, and hospitality.

Recognizing the potential disastrous impact of Proposition 499, the Chamber swiftly partnered with key industry allies and organizations such as the Arizona Lodging and Tourism Association (AZLTA) to mount a robust opposition campaign. Our collaborative efforts were instrumental in rallying support from various sectors of our community that would have been adversely affected.

The Chamber executed a comprehensive ground game that included strategic sign placements throughout the region, ensuring that our message reached voters directly. Additionally, we leveraged the power of media by publishing editorials and op-eds that articulated the negative implications of the Proposition. These efforts were crucial in informing the public and raising awareness about the potential consequences if the measure were to pass.

To further educate voters, we launched an extensive social media campaign to disseminate clear, factual information about Proposition 499. This campaign emphasized how the measure could lead to increased costs for families, job losses, and harm to local businesses, thereby threatening the economic stability of our region.

Thanks to the tireless efforts of the Chamber, city leaders, our partners, and the engaged community members, Proposition 499 was ultimately defeated. The Chamber is immensely proud to have been part of this critical effort to protect the economy of Glendale. Together, we have not only safeguarded local jobs but also supported the growth of our vibrant businesses, ensuring that our community continues to thrive.

WestVentures: Igniting Entrepreneurial Dreams in the West Valley

The WestVentures Small Business Success Center is ready to invigorate the West Valley with its 6,800-square-foot business incubator — a first-of-its-kind hub aimed at propelling local entrepreneurs toward success. The Glendale Chamber of Commerce is proud to be a lead partner in this exciting new endeavor conceived by Credit Union West and the Pendergast Elementary School District. Designed to stimulate regional economic growth, the success center embodies a bold, collaborative effort to empower both small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs. With the support of key partners — including the Glendale Chamber, Amazon, CORE Construction, Orcutt Winslow, and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona — the success center is designed to provide the essential resources, mentorship, and community support necessary for entrepreneurial success. Credit Union West also received grant support from the GoWest Credit Union Foundation.

At the heart of the success center’s offerings is the Entrepreneurship Ecosystem Program, generously sponsored by Credit Union West through the Filene Research Institute. This program, which is complementary for the first group of entrepreneurs, is tailored to early-stage businesses, offering hands-on learning opportunities, practical insights, and guidance from seasoned mentors. Through this program, entrepreneurs can gain the skills and confidence to elevate their ideas, build solid business foundations, and ultimately bring their business to life.

Thanks to our generous partners, members of the WestVentures Small Business Success Center enjoy an array of benefits, including access to mentorship, structured educational sessions, dedicated workspaces, expert guidance, and a robust support network — all of which contribute to a vibrant, growth-oriented atmosphere. Amazon’s Drone Delivery Program
Launches in the West Valley

Amazon’s shipping speeds continue to accelerate across the nation. Since November 2024, it has been possible for those who live and work in the West Valley Phoenix Metro Area to receive a package in under an hour as Amazon’s Drone Delivery Program has launched from its Tolleson Same-Day Delivery site.

In 2023, Amazon set its fastest-ever Prime delivery speeds. “In March, across the top 60 largest U.S. metro areas, nearly 60% of Prime members’ orders arrived the same day or next day,” Doug Herrington, CEO of Worldwide Amazon Stores, said in an Amazon video posted in April 2024.

Some of Amazon’s fastest shipping times in the nation occur in the Phoenix Metro area, Amazon spokesperson Zoe Richmond said.

Those abbreviated shipping times are made possible by “Amazon’s commitment to their infrastructure in the market,” Richmond added. The e-commerce giant’s main infrastructure within Arizona includes:

• 18 Fulfillment and sortation centers

• 13 Delivery stations

• 10 Whole Foods Market locations

• 1 Prime Now fulfillment center

• 1 Amazon Pharmacy

• 2 Solar farms

• 1 On-site solar location

Starting on Nov. 5, 2024, Amazon customers near the Tolleson Same-Day site at 107th Ave and Van Buren St. have been “able to select drone as an option for delivery if their home was within our radius and they ordered an item that was less than 5 pounds,” Richmond said.

The launch of the Tolleson site is part of the national expansion of Amazon’s Drone Delivery Program, which started in 2022. Amazon also has a Prime Air drone delivery facility in College Station, Texas.

Customers who select drone delivery out of the Tolleson location have access to more than 50,000 everyday essentials, which is the largest selection ever to be available for drone delivery, according to Amazon.

Delivery costs are $9.99 for Prime members and $14.99 for all Amazon customers.

Packages are delivered via Amazon-designed MK30 drones, which “include innovative, safety-critical features that allow it to deliver packages to customers with smaller backyards and in more densely populated suburban areas,” according to an Amazon statement on November 5.

With safety a priority for Amazon, its Federal Aviation Administration-approved MK30 drones to reduce the perceived noise by almost half. They also are designed with an on-board detect and avoid system and have received FAA approval to fly Beyond Visual Line of Sight.

This type of innovation is what helps make Amazon, a Glendale Chamber of Commerce Premier Partner and one of the state’s three largest non-governmental employers with 36,000 employees, such an important part of the community and the Grand Canyon State as a whole.

“Glendale is an innovative community and the launch of Amazon's drone delivery service in the West Valley is being embraced by the community and Glendale officials for its groundbreaking technology,” Richmond said. “The drone program represents more than just a logistical breakthrough – it symbolizes the community’s collective commitment to innovation, adaptability, and supporting bold ideas. This isn't just Amazon's achievement, it's a reflection of our West Valley’s collaborative DNA and our shared passion for innovation.”

Empowering High School Students

on Their Career Paths

Western Maricopa Education Center (West-MEC) is recruiting and offering 36 high school programs for the 2025-26 school year. Two new programs – Advanced Manufacturing and Automation & Robotics Systems – are designed to help West-MEC students acquire the technical and soft skills that will empower them on their career path.

West-MEC, “a public school district that provides innovative Career and Technical Education programs,” serves more than 37,000 high school juniors and seniors from 49 Phoenix Metro-area high schools. Students receive high school elective credit for completing a West-MEC course, and in some cases, they can also earn dual or concurrent college credits.

Twenty-five West-MEC students will begin a two-year Advanced Manufacturing program at the district’s Northeast Campus in Deer Valley in August. A key element of the program – which is the result of years of conversations with local business partners to determine what skills are in demand in the workforce – is to help students “develop an understanding of the impact of AI, robotics, and automation on modern manufacturing processes.”

Per Arizona Department of Education guidelines, 51% of the program’s 900 hours need to be spent hands-on.

“Businesses want to hire industry experts, so we try to get students in the lab as much as possible and we go over that 51%,” said Julie Rodriguez, West-MEC Director of Program Research and Development. “Most of the entire second year of the program will be in the lab.”

Starting in August 2026, Advanced Manufacturing will also be offered at West-MEC’s Southwest Campus.

In Fall 2024, Automation & Robotics Systems began at the Southwest Campus as a standalone program – it was originally part of the Energy & Manufacturing Systems program.

“When it came time to look at if this program was meeting what local businesses are looking for, we realized we were starting to fall short and needed to increase our capacity,” said Dr. Aaron Parsons, campus administrator, West-MEC Southwest Campus. “We could either remove Automation & Robotics altogether from the lineup or split it off. After conversations with our business partners and seeing all the distribution sites on the 303, the answer was there could not be some instruction on automation and robotics.”

The 29 students in the first cohort of this 1-year program (Dr. Parsons said there could be multiple 1-year programs or a 2-year standalone program in the future) are learning about managing industrial automation control systems, the integration of AI into manufacturing processes, and the comprehensive design, maintenance, and repair of robotics systems.

Students are also taught the importance of professionalism and leadership.

“One of the things my staff would tell you I’m famous for saying is, ‘If we can’t get a student through the interview, the skills that we taught them don’t matter,’” Dr. Parsons said. “Our goal is that when our students sit in that interview, they not only have the credentials and the skillset, they also come across as highly polished and professional.”

West-MEC’s partnership with the Glendale Chamber of Commerce also helps students connect with business professionals and stay in tune with local business trends. West-MEC, a chamber member since August 2010, has co-hosted Business After Hours events, it has hosted campus tours for Glendale Chamber members, and West-MEC Superintendent Dr. Scott Spurgeon is a member of the chamber’s Workforce Development Committee and Board of Directors.

A Commitment to a Stronger, Healthier, and More Inclusive Community

The Glendale Elementary School District has transformed a former school campus into its System of Care Center (SoCC) to provide an array of support, including mental health, social, educational, health, substance abuse, vocational, recreational, and juvenile justice services at no cost to the community.

After the school district was faced with permanent school closures due to declining enrollment caused by low birth rates, lack of affordable family housing, and increased competition from charter schools and alternative education providers, the GESD Governing Board and Superintendent Cindy Segotta-Jones had the vision of giving back to the community by repurposing Coyote Ridge Elementary School into a community resource hub.

Since its soft opening in August 2022 and grand opening/ribbon cutting in November 2023, the SoCC “has become an essential community asset” for students, families, and residents across Glendale’s 85301, 85302, and 85303 zip codes – which are “areas that face elevated poverty rates and limited access to vital resources,” said Assistant Superintendent for Behavioral Health and School Safety Louis Laffitte, Ed.D.

The center’s “One-Stop-Shop” model bridges that gap with the support of nearly 30 partner organizations that provide on-site services at no cost. The district’s partnership with the Glendale Chamber also allows it to extend its network and grow its partnerships to support its schools and the SoCC.

The following illustrate some of the impact these partnerships has made at the SoCC since it opened:

•  More than 2,500 households have received support from SoCC services.

•  Approximately 5,000 participants have attended courses such as English for Parents, Financial Literacy, and Food and Nutrition.

•  Nearly 100 community events have been hosted, including the annual “Get Ready 4 School Glendale” event in partnership with the Glendale Strong Family Network, which provides families with essential supplies, health screenings, and more to prepare students for the school year.

•  Three thousand meals have been served to kids through the Summer Meal Program with GESD’s Food and Nutrition Department.

“The SoCC’s collaborative model, involving local agencies and organizations, not only supports students' academic success but also builds resilience and stability in their lives,” Laffitte said. “By addressing these needs holistically, GESD continues to reinforce its commitment to creating a stronger, healthier, and more inclusive community.”

Providing Resources, Stability, and Hope for Children in Arizona

OCJ Kids (Opportunity, Community, and Justice for Kids) has served “at-risk and foster care children and youth in Arizona” for decades. With close to 14,000 Arizona children currently in foster care, there is not only plenty of need for all the resources, programs, and hope that the Phoenix-based nonprofit delivers, but also for volunteers to support the organization’s mission of providing opportunity, creating community, and fighting for justice for foster and at-risk kids.

Founded in 1996 with the goal of helping at-risk kids during afterschool and lunchtime programs, OCJ Kids transitioned to foster care in 2006. The goal of the organization is “to intersect kids on their journey through the foster care system,” Gary Webb, who started the organization with his wife, Tamara, said on Facebook. “We provide everything those kids need from the very second they’re removed to 4 and 5 years after they age out of foster care.”

Understanding it can be a traumatic process for a child to be removed from his or her home, OCJ Kids, as a trusted partner of the Arizona Department of Child Safety Offices, provides an array of resources for foster children of all ages – everything from new pajamas and cuddle bags, which include stuffed animals and treats to “help reduce the fear and trauma in a child’s removal,” to gift cards to provide warm meals.

OCJ Kids also partners with 160 group homes throughout Arizona, said Shevaun Sullivan, OCJ Kids director of group home relations. Thirty of these homes are connected with house mentors, who are trained volunteers that go into the homes to help create family and a support system for the foster kids. “I’m looking for ‘marathoners’ with the house mentors,” Sullivan said. “People who are willing to commit to going into these group homes for 3, 4 or 5 years and helping create some stability for these kids who have gone through so much transition.”

Sullivan said OCJ Kids also has a huge need for phone mentors, who collect information and track the progress of the youth aging out of foster care.

Some of OCJ Kids’ annual events to support foster children throughout Arizona include:

•  The Adult Summit (April 5, 2025), a career fair “designed to prepare teens in group homes for independent living.”

•  Tools 4 Success, an event that connects volunteers and donors with foster children who receive school supplies for the upcoming school year.

•  The Summer Enrichment Program, an 8-week program that “allows over 100 foster kids in care to participate in exciting STEM-related experiments to spark curiosity and interest for science.”

•  The One Bright Star Toy Drive, a festive event in December that gives foster children a chance to enjoy the holidays, meet Santa Claus, and receive a personalized gift to remind them they are cared for and not forgotten.
