from the President

Welcome to Frisco, Texas! We publish this as an annual community guide for existing business leaders, those considering making a move to Frisco, and even long-time residents seeking more connections in our community. If you haven’t fallen in love with Frisco yet, it’s only a matter of time. 

Here’s the origin story of my Frisco love. My husband and I grew up in the DFW area then relocated out of state. We’d watched Frisco from afar for years as many of our childhood friends were relocating here. We couldn’t quite figure out what the hype was all about. More than once, while traveling from OKC to visit family, we took a detour just to drive around Frisco and try to uncover the secret behind this place. In 2013, we had the opportunity to move here, and it didn’t take us long to figure out this is a family-friendly, business-friendly, high-quality city that’s always striving to raise the bar. We were quickly smitten. 

I had the privilege of spending my first decade in Frisco leading the expansion of a media company. The Frisco Chamber of Commerce was a big part of that success story, and I had the honor of serving on the Chamber Board for six years, including as Chair in 2020. 

It did not turn out to be the ‘kick-off to the next 50 years that we’d initially imagined. Instead, I got to watch as the Frisco Chamber team did incredible work to help businesses through unimaginable challenges. Seeing the impact of the Frisco Chamber during this time underscored my deep appreciation for the industry and the importance of this mission to a healthy, vibrant community. When the opportunity arose, I joined the Frisco Chamber as Chief Operating Officer, and now, as President/CEO, a responsibility I don’t take lightly. 

Whether you are an entrepreneur getting a new idea off the ground, a Fortune 500 company moving all operations to Frisco, or a nonprofit stepping up to meet a need in our community, getting to be a partner with you is an honor and, frankly, a dream. 

Frisco is well known for its partnerships, and the Frisco Chamber remains steadfast in its commitment to collaboration and growth. Embracing the wisdom that ‘rising tides lift all boats,’ we are poised to achieve even greater heights together. We will keep rising as we continue to lift one another up.

Having traveled and done business in many large global cities, Frisco, Texas stands alone as the model for how individuals and businesses can achieve exceptional results.

When we made the decision to relocate our global HQ to Frisco in 2019, the energy we felt was instantaneous. The top leaders of the city, education systems, community partners, chamber of commerce and fellow businesses allowed us to connect all throughout this engaged and diverse community. Being a member of the Frisco Chamber of Commerce, and the additional collaboration opportunities that spurred, led to our business becoming stronger, even during the challenges of the past few years. 

I have been fortunate to serve on the Frisco Chamber Board of Directors in several roles and committees during my time in Frisco. I believe this board to be one of the most dynamic and dedicated teams I’ve ever been involved with. Under new leadership, the Frisco Chamber of Commerce is poised to realize heights not seen before.

In the coming year, the Frisco Chamber team is excited to introduce some new programming that aligns with the key initiatives of our current strategic plan. Many of these programs, centered around business education, workforce advancement, and nonprofit support, will fall under the Foundation, 501(c)(3) arm of the Frisco Chamber.

I am honored to serve you as the Chair of the Board for 2024 and will work relentlessly to continue progressing the Frisco Chamber’s tagline of Connect, Grow, Lead, and Give Back.

The City of Frisco requires dogs and cats to be vaccinated for rabies by 4 months of age and to have a booster within a 12-month interval following the initial vaccination. A dog or cat must be re-vaccinated against rabies for a minimum of at least 3 years with an approved vaccine. A pet must wear a current rabies tag on their collar at all times. A pet that is currently vaccinated will satisfy the pet registration requirement.

The City of Frisco will activate the Outdoor Warning Sirens when severe weather, such as hail of 1.25 inches or larger, winds of 70 mph or greater, or a tornado threatens the community. If severe weather is approaching Frisco and the warning sirens are heard, seek shelter immediately and monitor TV and radio for further instructions.

The Frisco Fire Department sounds its Outdoor Warning Siren System every Wednesday at noon to ensure the sirens are working properly and to help prepare for any severe weather or other emergency situation that threatens Frisco.

RELOCATING TO FRISCO

NEW TO TEXAS?

Vehicle Registration

Here are the steps to becoming a Registered Texan:

Have your vehicle inspected. Simply take your vehicle to a certified Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) inspection station. Many mechanic shops, oil change locations, and service stations are certified by DPS as inspection stations. Bring your insurance card.

In Texas, you must show you have insurance coverage for a minimum of $30,000 per injured person, up to a total of $60,000 for everyone injured in an accident, and $25,000 for property damage.

Next, it’s time to get your vehicle registration sticker and license plates. To do this, you must visit your local county tax-assessor collector office. You will need your insurance card, proof of vehicle inspection (the Vehicle Inspection Report from the inspection station), and proof you own the vehicle, such as the registration or title from your previous state. You can also show a current foreign/military ownership document or foreign evidence of ownership. Please note that if your insurance policy was issued in another state, you will need to bring your policy in its entirety so that insurance coverage minimums may be verified.

Drivers License

The Texas Department of Public Safety is the agency that issues driver licenses and IDs in Texas. New Texas residents can legally drive with a valid, unexpired driver’s license from another U.S. state, U.S. territory, Canadian province, or qualifying country for up to 90 days after moving to Texas.

Prior to the end of the 90-day grace period, a new Texas resident must apply for a Texas license in person at any driver’s license office to continue to drive legally. When applying for the new Texas license, the individual must surrender any unexpired driver’s license in their possession from another U.S. state, U.S. territory, or a Canadian province.

Frisco’s Changing Landscape

HALL Park

The new development at HALL Park is a turning point in the long-term vision for the campus, transforming it from a singular office focus into a dynamic, urban-like, mixed-use community. Phase one of the new HALL Park masterplan includes three new towers: a 16-story, Class AAA, trophy office tower; a 224-key boutique hotel and suites; a 19-story, luxury multifamily tower; a 10,000-square-foot eatery; and the 5.7-acre, community-centric Kaleidoscope Park.

The Star District

The 91-acre Star District includes over 35 restaurants and retail options and is home to the Dallas Cowboys World Headquarters. The area also includes hotel, office, medical, and the Dallas Cowboys training facility.

Frisco Station

Frisco Station is in the middle of everything in Frisco, Texas. Located in one of the fastest-growing communities in the U.S. and along Frisco’s highly desired North Platinum Corridor, the 242-acre development features dining, shopping, entertainment and fully amenitized office, residential and hotel properties surrounding The Star, the 91-acre headquarters and practice facility of the Dallas Cowboys.

Frisco Station was built from the ground up using a next-generation telecommunications platform to enable real-time 5G connectivity throughout the development. Park

Kaleidoscope Park will be a free, enriching, social, and recreational public green space for North Texas, opening in the summer of 2024. The Park will offer inspiring programs, including concerts, films, diverse musical and dance performances, and a variety of health and recreational activities. It will feature beautiful art, architecture, and gardens set among a children’s play area, dog park, performance lawn, outdoor workspaces, and shaded promenades and plazas.

The Park is operated as a public-private partnership between Kaleidoscope Park Foundation and the City of Frisco. Kaleidoscope Park Foundation’s mission is to ensure the Park is activated to the highest standards, including bringing free arts & cultural programming to all visitors. This mission is accomplished only through the generosity of donors to the Park Foundation. Donations support the necessary operations to preserve the beauty, activities, and safety of the Park, providing a memorable and enjoyable visitor experience for all.

Universal Kids Resort

Universal Destinations & Experiences is creating its first-ever theme park concept specifically for families with young children in Frisco. Universal Kids Resort will bring the company’s innovative style of storytelling to a new, younger audience. It will include a theme park featuring immersive themed lands that celebrate Universal’s iconic brand of entertainment, humor and fun – bringing to life beloved characters and stories in ways that will wow the youngest theme park goers. It will feature family-friendly attractions, interactive and playful shows, unique merchandise, fun food and beverage venues and character meet and greets. The resort area will also include a 300-room themed hotel giving families a place to stay and to play following their day of adventure. Set in lush green landscape with a distinctive look, feel and scale specifically for younger kids, the park will deliver the quality the Universal brand is known for worldwide.

Redevelopment

Frisco’s Rail District, a vibrant blend of heritage and modernity, continues to evolve, mirroring the dynamic spirit of the trains that have long been a symbol of the city’s identity. This evolution is further evident in the upcoming redevelopment projects, which are set to transform the downtown Rail District significantly to a re-imagined, more pedestrian-friendly area in anticipation of the 2026 World Cup.

The conclusion of construction on Elm Street marks just the beginning of a series of ambitious projects in the Rail District. The city’s vision extends to a comprehensive revitalization of Main Street, the creation of the 4th Street Plaza, and the development of a new downtown parking garage. These initiatives are designed to infuse the historic Rail District with renewed vigor and accessibility.

Frisco Library

It’s only fitting that the new Frisco Public Library has a story of its own. The new library facility opened in early 2023 after several years of anticipation and large-scale renovations to a former rocket plant that was built in the 1980s. The library features the impressive Rexy, a life-size Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton model. Interactive dinosaur footprints embedded in the floor create vibrations and sounds, adding to the immersive experience.

The Frisco Library, the 6th largest public library in Texas at 158,068 square feet, has a collection of over 284,000 items, including digital. Whether you are coming to hang out with friends, need a conference room for a meeting, or a place to study and explore – it’s all under one large roof! Patrons can borrow unique items like travel backpacks, ukuleles, and drones and GoPro cameras for technology exploration.

The youngest visitors can visit Tiny Town, or The Pond area, while teens and adults have a dedicated zone of their own!

UNT at Frisco’s Frisco Landing

Born from a partnership between UNT and the City of Frisco, UNT at Frisco opened its first permanent building — Frisco Landing — on the 100-acre campus located on the southwest corner of Preston Road and Panther Creek Parkway.

This state-of-the-art building was designed with a focus on student success and offers classrooms and study spaces to promote collaboration, transparency and open communication between the faculty and students.

Frisco Landing is home to UNT’s College of Applied and Collaborative Studies, and many of the 27 undergraduate and master’s level programs offered to students, including our sport entertainment management degrees informed by our formal partnerships with the Dallas Cowboys, the PGA of America and others.

The four-story building was designed with space that focuses on student success and collaboration. The building features 69 “huddle rooms” that allow for small to medium-sized groups to collaborate and interactive classrooms that allow all students access to fully participate.

Frisco Landing marks the latest chapter in UNT’s presence in Collin County, which allows UNT to offer convenient access to the opportunities that a UNT education provides for those in the North Texas region and beyond.

The UNT at Frisco branch campus master plan, which was approved in 2019 by the UNT System Board of Regents, establishes the framework for the growth and development of the new site for decades to come and supports UNT’s mission to prepare students to thrive in a rapidly changing world.

While originally comprised of just over 300 acres, Grand Park now encompasses over 1,000 acres of varying terrain, including almost 8 miles of creek, and is larger than New York City’s Central Park. The Texas Sculpture Garden is a 4-acre tract of land at the entrance of HALL Park that was reserved as a special tribute to Texas artists and their work.

Recognized as the largest private collection of contemporary sculpture ever assembled and made available to the public, the Texas Sculpture Garden was created to benefit the Texas community by honoring the talent of homegrown artists and making their art accessible to everyone.
