WELCOME

As a veteran public servant, I have long known that government functions best when it works in partnership with the community. This is especially true with the business community. For City government to succeed, business must succeed. For the City to grow and prosper, business must grow and prosper. Now past the halfway point in my first term as the City of Fresno‘s mayor, I want to thank the business community for helping me move Fresno forward

I view the Fresno Chamber of Commerce as a key partner in realizing my One Fresno vision, where together we create an inclusive, prosperous, beautiful city where people take pride in their neighborhoods and community. Already, we are seeing progress. Our parks are cleaner. Our neighborhoods are safer. Housing is under construction. We compassionately transitioned all homeless individuals living along our freeways to converted motels, with the goal of moving them into permanent housing.

Everywhere I look, I see opportunities to make our City better. Already, downtown is in the midst of a revival that will continue as more new housing is constructed and additional businesses open to serve that population. The Blackstone and Kings Canyon corridors are ready for rejuvenation, with housing planned and a new senior center in the works. Connecting these areas, as well as Fresno City College and Fresno State University, will be a free trolley. This is a City more determined than ever to take its rightful place among California’s great cities. I also continue to work at improving City Hall’s customer service and make it easier for businesses to succeed. I am working at diversifying our economy.

As I continue to make my vision of One Fresno a reality, I welcome the support of the Fresno Chamber and its members. Your partnership is critical to move my vision forward. To every member who has stood with me and will stand with me, who has committed to helping me make Fresno a better place to live and raise a family, I say “Thank You!” Let’s continue to move our great City forward.

One of the primary objectives for the Fresno Chamber is to be active in local, state, and federal issues that impact businesses in the greater Fresno area because a prosperous private sector is paramount to a healthy community.

The Chamber has two thriving programs in place to actively engage in the governmental and political processes and advocate for business needs, including: the Government Affairs Council (GAC) and the Fresno Chamber Political Action Committee (PAC).

The GAC is an active committee with 17 appointed members who represent different industry sectors. Its role is to analyze proposed bills, initiatives, and business-related issues at the local, state, and national levels, and engage with our elected officials so they know how the actions they are taking will affect our business community. These grassroots efforts include writing letters to elected officials, tracking how our representatives vote, speaking out at city council and board of supervisor meetings and being the most influential voice on behalf of the business community in the greater Fresno area.

Members are encouraged to communicate their government-related issues to the GAC to see if the Chamber can step in to help. Anyone interested in learning what is going on in the community is welcome to listen and participate in the spirited conversation at GAC meetings, held the second Wednesday of each month at noon. The meetings serve as a great way to keep up with hot-button issues affecting the business community, which are constantly evolving.

The Chamber PAC is a political committee organized for the sole purpose of raising money and making campaign contributions for or

against candidates, ballot initiatives or legislation. In 2021 and 2022 the Chamber’s PAC raised over $180,000 for these efforts.

Not only does the Chamber PAC take an active role in campaign contributions, but members also diligently work to develop relationships with Fresno County Board of Supervisors, Fresno City Council members and the mayor’s office, and state and national elected officials representing the Greater Fresno area.

We are often told the role of the Chamber plays in the legislative and political processes are one of the greatest benefits of Chamber membership. It serves as a constant reminder of why our organization exist, and the commitment we have made to ensure the health and prosperity of the Fresno business community. ◗

LEADERSHIP FRESNO

Leadership Fresno is one of the Chamber’s most prominent programs and is unlike any other course of its kind. It was founded in 1984 to enhance the skills, resources, and civic involvement of business leaders in the community.

Each year, a new, elite group of Fresnans is selected to participate in the class. The program begins in August with an immersive two-day retreat, followed by day-long seminars each month. Additionally, it is incumbent upon the class members to determine a project that will benefit the community in a significant way – an endeavor in which each participant must be integrally involved in.

Program graduates have advanced to hold leadership positions in a variety of organizations, they have been elected to political office and many have found their participation in Leadership Fresno positively affects their professional lives. Each class also has a special attachment to the program, a fact evidenced by the frequently repeated phrase, “My class was the best class ever!” ◗

The goals of this program are

•  To identify and prepare potential and current leaders from all areas of the community for leadership roles throughout the greater Fresno area.

•  To provide a broad overview of the issues, challenges and opportunities facing our city, county and the greater community.

•  To promote access to and dialogue with community leaders.

•  To stimulate increased participation and commitment in the community.

MADE CENTRAL CALIFORNIA

A Food Industry Tradeshow
Thursday, November 2 - Friday, November 3
Fresno Convention & Entertainment Center

The Fresno Chamber is proud to introduce MADE Central California – a food industry tradeshow for Central California’s food and beverage companies to connect with new customers, network with industry suppliers, and engage with local consumers.

MADE Central California provides a platform for Central California’s food and beverage companies to connect with retail and foodservice buyers, take advantage of educational sessions and roundtable discussions, network with their peers and local food industry suppliers, and of course, engage with local consumers during the beloved public event that will take place on day two of the event (11/3) from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the Fresno Convention and Entertainment Center. Similar to last year’s event, this year will feature the region’s “rising stars” in the food industry, which include everything from mouthwatering Mexican candy to gourmet puff corn to sourdough chocolate chip cookies!

Expanded upon in 2022, MADE Central California not only highlights food and beverages made here in the central valley, it shows you how it’s made. Ag tech companies and industry suppliers that improve the agri-food system through preservation of the environment, enhance data and automation, and create more resilient crops are all featured at this event.

Returning to this year’s show will be the Pressure Cooker. This KSEE24 televised competition highlights the most innovative new products and services in Central California’s food industry. Last year’s event featured restaurant robots, upcycled fruit that prevents food waste, and premium spirits distilled entirely from California citrus! Ultimately, the 2022 winner of the $10,000 cash prize went to Saint Francis Homeless Project. This company was awarded for their innovative and unique business model, in which they offer homeless women the opportunity to become employed and create positive changes in their life through an educational program where they are responsible for producing all-natural dog treats.

COMMUNITY EVENTS & CULTURE

Fresno is a destination for the arts. The community celebrates its art and culture, whether it is honoring the customs of its diverse population, relishing the sophistication of stage performances, or enjoying the rich customs of its residents through festivals. The city is home to many cultural celebrations throughout the year that bring the Fresno community together.

The Big Fresno Fair

Every October, more than 600,000 people come together for two weeks to enjoy the tradition of The Big Fresno Fair. From live music, competitive exhibits, fun attractions and events, community performances, delicious Fair food, thrilling carnival rides, live horse racing and more, The Big Fresno Fair has something for everyone! Fresno State Vintage Days

Fresno State’s longest-running tradition since 1975, is a 3-day long festival planned by students. Featuring student food and game booths with local favorites, a kids zone, a concert stage with local performers, and a crafts fair that features handmade goods! Vintage Days is held in the spring every year and expects more than 50,000 patrons each year. Find more information on Vintage Days at

State of the City

The State of the City is hosted in partnership with the City of Fresno. The event provides a forum for Mayor Dyer to reflect on our city’s accomplishments over the previous year, discuss the city’s economic state, and share his plans for the future. It also serves as an opportunity for community members of various backgrounds to gather and celebrate what makes us One Fresno. The State of the City takes place in late Spring/early Summer.

Moe Bagunu Memorial Golf Classic

Spend the day swinging your clubs at the Chamber’s annual Moe Bagunu Memorial Golf Classic. Join us for a chance to win $100,000 in hole-in-one prizes, a brand new car, over $5,000 in raffle prizes and much, much more! The Moe Bagunu Memorial Golf Classic is a wonderful opportunity to have fun while networking and supporting the Fresno Chamber. The Moe Bagunu Memorial Golf Classic traditionally takes place in the Spring season or early Summer.

Fresyes

Fresyes is the biggest block party in Downtown Fresno and takes over Fulton Street with food trucks, vendors, pop-up venues, beer from local breweries and a full lineup of live music. This annual event happens every late March.

Hmong New Year

Hmong New Year is an annual week-long cultural celebration at the Fresno Fairgrounds on December 29 to January 1. Attracting more than 120,000 patrons a year, Hmong New Year is the largest Hmong American community event in the United States. Traditionally, this annual event celebrates the conclusion of the harvest season and marks the end of a year’s hard work and serves as a Thanksgiving holiday. Fresno Greek Fest

Fresno Greek Fest is an annual 3-day festival in early September and celebrates Greek Culture. From the home cooked meals, to the dancing, to dozens of vendors with Greek themed merchandise, the Fresno Greek Festival keeps you entertained at every corner. Art Hop

What started as a community-driven public art experience by local artists in Downtown Fresno in the early 1990s has grown to become one of the most well known and much anticipated monthly art happenings in the Greater Fresno-Clovis metropolitan area and the Central San Joaquin Valley: ArtHop. Each month, every first and third Thursday, art patrons and enthusiasts discover artworks at local galleries, museums, retail stores, business offices, and public squares while enjoying music, dance, food, and public performances from 5:00-8: 00PM. Fresno Blossom Trail

The Fresno Blossom Trail is Fresno’s pride and joy each spring. Orchards can be seen all over Fresno County and blossom viewing is typically available mid- February to mid-March. Blossoms range from almond, plum, apricot, citrus, and more! For more information, visit www.goblossomtrail.com.

Concerts and Events at Save Mart Center

Save Mart Center is a multi-purpose arena on the campus of California State University, Fresno. The arena is home to the Fresno State Men and Women’s basketball team, Men’s Wrestling and Women’s Volleyball team. The Savemart Center Arena encompasses nearly 430,000 square feet with three primary levels and 40 luxury seats. The arena has held a variety of events from legends like Britney Spears to a full-scale Professional Bull Riding Competition.

Tour Historical Homes, Meux Home Museum,
Kearney Mansion Museum, and Forestiere Underground Gardens

Fresno’s history can be depicted through our architecture, take a step into the past and tour historical homes, Meux Home, Kearney Mansion, and Forestiere Underground Garden. The Meux Home Museum is a 16-room Victorian Mansion and a tribute to gothic Victorian architecture and hospitality. Tours are available Friday-Sunday, for more information call (559) 233-8007 Tour the turn-of-the-20th century Kearney Mansion Museum and experience the grounds that was the ranch headquarters of Kearney’s Fruitvale Estate. This 1890’s landscape is available for tours Friday-Sunday, advance reservations are encouraged and can be made by phone call at (559) 441-0862 The Forestiere Underground Garden is a hidden gem right off highway 99 and was home to Baldassare Forestiere in the early 1900s. What once was useless farmland is now a vast
network of rooms, tunnels, and courtyards. Guided tours are
available, and tickets can be purchased via their website at
www.undergroundgardens.com.

Take A Stroll and visit Mural Districts

Downtown Fresno is a destination for public art, featuring sculptures and tile mosaics along Fulton Mall, and galleries and art studios on nearly every street. While not officially designated, Downtown contains several overlapping districts, including “The Cultural Arts District” and “The Mural District,” known as such for their proliferation of vibrant murals punctuating the area. A great way to experience these murals is on a self-guided walking tour. Consider starting at the Cultural Arts District Park on Fulton and Calaveras, from which point you can explore several murals within a few blocks. As you circle the park’s surrounding streets, keep an eye out for the “Art Inspires Life” butterfly mural on Fulton and the winged woman at Broadway and Calaveras, both painted by FranCisco Vargas, the iconic “Fresno Postage Stamp” mural artist, as well as the Heart, Tokyo Garden, Horse, and Revitalize murals nearby. Round out your walk on Van Ness and Calaveras, where you’ll see murals adoring the Arte Américas and CMAC buildings. ◗

Whether you want to sit down to enjoy a relaxing meal with an elegant atmosphere or need to grab a bite on the run, you will find the dining options in Fresno to be plentiful, varied and most importantly, delicious. These establishments are situated close to unique shopping destinations. Whether you’re shopping in local retail shops or catching a movie in our multi-use shopping centers, there’s something for everyone in Fresno.

Columbia Sportwear: The Columbia brand store is located in Fresno at Fig Garden Village. Shop their large inventory of performance outerwear and footwear that will keep you warm, dry, cool, and protected year-round.

The Shop at KLSD: The Shop at KLSD is an artisan collective located in the Peerless Building in Downtown Fresno. KLSD has a heart for supporting local and small businesses, which is reflected in the products sourced for the shop.

Manchester Center: Manchester Center is centrally located and has served the Fresno Community for over 50 years! The 1,023,871-square-foot mall is currently anchored by Sears and Regal Manchester 16 Theaters and will create a lively and engaging multi-use space for the Fresno community.

Tower District: Tower District is home to Fresno’s nightlife destination, surrounded by dozens of restaurants, coffee shops, stores, and bars all within walking distance of each other. Tower District is named after the neon-lit historic landmark, the Tower Theatre, a 1939 Art-Deco masterpiece

River Park Shopping Center: River Park Shopping Center is the Central Valley’s premier shopping destination, where shopping, food and fun meet work and play. River Park is an outdoor shopping center on the east side of Blackstone Avenue. Don’t miss out on the weekly events with Fresno Street Eats.

Fashion Fair: Fashion Fair is a shopping center featuring Macy’s, Apple, JCPenney, H&M, XLanes, Foot Locker, Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse, The Cheesecake Factory, BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse, Slater’s 50/50, Chick-Fil-A, and Five Guys among 140 specialty shops and restaurants. Enjoy an evening of shopping in name-brand stores and visiting restaurants from local favorite lunch spots to fine dining like Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse!

Campus Pointe at Fresno State: The intersection between life and learning Campus Pointe at Fresno State is the destination for those who want to experience dining, shopping, and entertainment! This shopping center includes a 14-screen theater complex and a wide variety of restaurants guarantee an active nightlife, while specialty retailers cater to the needs of all kinds of shoppers.

Fig Garden Village: Fig Garden Village shopping center features popular stores like Lululemon, Chico’s, Ariat, Banana Republic, Anthropologie, Bath and Body Works, and more. Whether it’s an afternoon snack, a hot cup of coffee or a relaxing meal with friends or family, take a break to recharge, refuel and indulge in a variety of dining options.

BJ’S Kountry Kitchen: BJ’S Kountry Kitchen takes homemade cooking to another level with its local favorites like the Strawberry French Toast or the famous Biscuits and Gravy. With plentiful potions you won’t regret stopping by this “Kountry” Kitchen!

Fresno Breakfast House: Fresno Breakfast House has served the residents of the Central Valley for over 20 years! La Boulangerie: La Boulangerie is a bakery with strong French influence which emphasizes the usage of fresh and wholesome ingredients. HEALTH CARE

Fresno is home to several medical centers offering only the best care and most state-of-the-art medical technology. Residents and visitors of Fresno can take comfort in knowing that Fresno hospitals and their physicians have maintained an excellent reputation. Quality doctors, surgeons, nurses, assistants and all other support staff work together using the most advanced equipment to bring the best possible services to the patients they serve.

Community Regional Medical Center: Community Regional Medical Center is the flagship hospital of Community Medical Centers’ four acute-care facilities, and home to Central California’s highest level of care – the Leon S. Peters Burn Center and the Table Mountain Rancheria Trauma Center – the region’s only comprehensive burn and level I Trauma centers. The medical center has a capacity of 685 licensed beds and receives about 4,000 transfer patients a year from other areas. Community Regional is home to expert private and academic physicians who provide dozens of medical specialty services that often aren’t available at other Valley hospitals.

Valley Children’s HealthCare: Valley Children’s Healthcare provides Central California’s only high-quality, comprehensive care exclusively for children, from before birth to young adulthood. Their independent, non-profit network offers highly specialized medical and surgical services to treat conditions ranging from common to the most unusual and complex at their 358-bed children’s hospital. Clovis Community Medical Center: Clovis Community Medical Center offers the perfect blend of exceptional, family-centered care and comfortable accommodations. From women’s services and minimally invasive surgeries to cancer care and emergency services, Clovis Community remains one of the top choices for care in the region. Clovis Community added a new bed tower in fall 2022 with 144 all-private inpatient beds, bringing the hospital’s total inpatient capacity to 352. Many services to support the bed tower have also expanded, including cardiothoracic and pulmonary care. Formerly offered only at Community’s other acute-care hospitals, Community’s Heart & Lung Institute is now operating in Clovis too with added technology and services.

Fresno Heart & Surgical Hospital: Located in north Fresno by Woodward Park, Fresno Heart & Surgical Hospital is a specialty hospital known for its luxurious accommodations, excellent patient experience and top-rated cardiac, vascular and bariatric surgery services. The hospital also offers restaurant-quality cuisine that caters to individual patient needs and tastes. Fresno Heart & Surgical also has been recognized for its clinical excellence in bariatric surgery, vascular surgery, carotid surgery and intensive care nursing.

Community Behavioral Health Center: Community Behavioral Health Center is the largest psychiatric-care facility in the area providing 24-hour adult inpatient psychiatric care. As the Valley’s only inpatient mental health facility, the 73-bed facility offers four separate units with levels of care that are appropriate to the functional levels of their patients. Patient services include adult care, group and individual therapy, medication management, recreational therapy as well as other treatment modalities. The hospital is located near Herndon and Cedar avenues in north Fresno.

Fresno Surgical Hospital: is a fully licensed, Joint Commission-accredited hospital that delivers award-winning surgical care and patient satisfaction. The hospital has more than 80 surgeons who serve approximately 12,000 patients in their Central California service area. They provide surgical services dedicated to orthopedic, neurosurgery-spine, ophthalmology, women’s health, urology, general surgery and many other inpatient and outpatient procedures. The hospital has recently been recognized by Press Ganey as a 2022 Human Experience Guardian of Excellence Award winner.

Saint Agnes Medical Center: Saint Agnes Medical Center has served the Central Valley with high-quality, compassionate care for more than nine decades. Kaiser Permanente: Kaiser Permanente is a leading provider of healthcare in Fresno, Madera, and northern Kings and Tulare counties, dedicated to care innovations, clinical research, health education, and the support of community health. It is one of the largest private sector employers in the Central San Joaquin Valley with more than 2,950 employees and physicians. Kaiser Permanente Fresno serves the community with seven medical office buildings in Fresno, Clovis, Selma and Oakhurst. EDUCATION IN FRESNO

The City of Fresno and its Department of Education recognizes that today’s students are tomorrow’s leaders. Educational opportunities in Fresno County are abundant. The area offers quality schools of choice, including public, private and charter schools; vocational and technical training programs; and access to some of the finest colleges and universities in the nations. Those who wish to continue their education are fortunate to also have an abundance of excellent institutions close to home.

Fresno Unified School District: serves nearly 74,000 students from preschool through grade 12. The district is the third largest in California. Recently, the district received national attention when philanthropist MacKenzie Scott donated $20 million dollars to the Foundation for Fresno Unified Schools for scholarships and other high-impact district initiatives to support students.

Central Unified School District: Central Unified School District continues to be a population growth center for Fresno County. It serves at least 16,200 students with programs for preschool, 14 elementary schools, three middle schools, three high school campuses, one continuation high school, one community day school, one online home school, and one adult and alternative education school (CLASS). In 2022 Central was awarded the California Pivotal Practice Award, recognizing their innovation and exceptional work during distanced learning.

Clovis Unified School District: Clovis Unified School District is a high-performing TK-12 public school system that serves the cities of Clovis and Fresno, as well as some unincorporated areas of Fresno County and the rural community of Friant. The district covers approximately 198 square miles and has a student population of close to 43,000. The district includes much of the northeast area of the city of Fresno, with 44 percent of the district’s student population living within Fresno city limits.

California State University, Fresno (Fresno State): Fresno State is recognized as the premier public university and driver of social mobility in the central San Joaquin Valley and promotes academic excellence through high-quality research and teaching. Fresno City College: Fresno City College, California’s first community college, was established in 1910. This comprehensive two-year college provides a vast array of services to assist students in achieving their educational goals. The college offers a wide range of academic programs that award associate degrees and certificates. It is dedicated to working collaboratively with the community to enhance the academic, economic, and social development of the region.

Clovis Community College: Clovis Community College is Number # 1 in California for the number of transfer students to UCs/CSUs, based on enrollment.
