2025 will be another year of evolution and promise for the Central Fairfax Chamber of Commerce. The November Election brought us an entirely new administration with a dramatically different philosophy. The Central Fairfax Chamber of Commerce’s adaptability and singular focus on our communities and what brings value to local businesses places us in a unique position to help our members as they adapt to this changing environment and the challenges and opportunities that will emerge.

As in the past, the Chamber is growing, adding services and continuing to strengthen the partnerships we have in our broader community. Our relationships with the City of Fairfax, Fairfax County, George Mason University, Northern Virginia Community College and our many non-profit and charitable groups continue to grow and have enabled us to find even better ways of serving our members and communities. As always, we feel incredibly fortunate to have these wonderful organizations to work with and continue to look for ways to broaden our efforts. We have also built a growing list of strong relationships with other organizations that serve the DMV. This includes a wide range of local and specialized chambers as well as business and community groups.

The Chamber knows that the landscape is constantly changing and, as a result, so must those of us dedicated to supporting our business community and the community in general. Our mission is more important than ever, serving our business community and helping make it even stronger. For nearly 70 years, the CFCC has steadfastly been one of the business community’s most innovative and STRONGEST allies! And I firmly believe that the best is yet to come!

Our Chamber’s benefits are constantly growing and include networking, advocacy, marketing assistance, education and a growing number of cost savings programs. Our Board of Directors is made up of local business leaders as well as representatives of Fairfax County and Fairfax City Economic Development Authorities as well as the City of Fairfax and its Economic Development Office. This impressive group of community leaders provides a unique forum for addressing the business community’s concerns.

Regardless of the business environment, the Central Fairfax Chamber of Commerce will be here to support the business community in growing, thriving and, most importantly of all, succeeding! Remember our motto: “Small Business Focus, Big Business Results!”

Your Neighborhood Chamber of Commerce

For nearly 70 years, the Central Fairfax Chamber of Commerce has worked to serve the business communities of the City of Fairfax and its “suburbs”! One of the fastest growing Chambers in the DMV, the Central Fairfax Chamber of Commerce provides leadership and resources to the business community. We do this by offering a variety of programs, benefits and services to businesses of all sizes that includes networking, advocacy, marketing, education and cost saving programs.

We serve businesses, nonprofits and citizens alike in the area that encompasses the central and western parts of Fairfax County and the City of Fairfax. With small business in mind, all our benefits, programs and services are designed to help save a business owner time and money — two resources we always seem to run short on!

Our History

Small Business Focus, Big Business Results had its genesis in 1956 when a group of the Town of Fairfax business people organized the Court House Square Businessmen’s Association. The original 27-member group, which would ultimately become the Central Fairfax Chamber of Commerce (CFCC), dealt with many of the same topics that the Chamber addresses today. These include membership, events, programs and benefits that enhance our members’ businesses. Equally important are the Chamber’s relationships with the City of Fairfax, Fairfax County and other area chambers of commerce and associations.

Over the next several decades, the Chamber has carried out numerous programs and services that support and promote business growth. The Chamber has often spoken out on local and state legislative actions that potentially impact the varied interests of our business community. In October of 1961, the Chamber supported an action for the Town of Fairfax to become the City of Fairfax. On April 18, 1963, based on the dramatic growth in the city, the board voted to name the organization the City of Fairfax Chamber of Commerce, Inc.

In 1982, as the surrounding areas continued to expand and a growing number of Chamber members were located outside the City of Fairfax, the Chamber officially became the Central Fairfax Chamber of Commerce. This enabled the Chamber to better reach out to businesses surrounding the city and support them both in the city and county at large. However, the core of the Chamber’s activities continued to be focused on the City of Fairfax.

The Central Fairfax Chamber of Commerce enjoys a robust relationship with the City of Fairfax and its Economic Development Authority as well as Mason and the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority. These partnerships all focus on helping local businesses and creating the best possible environment for businesses to open and flourish. Our location in the City of Fairfax and being in the center of Fairfax County offers a unique opportunity to serve the community.

Throughout the Central Fairfax Chamber of Commerce’s existence, the goal has always been the same – to help our members maximize their business opportunities and make our community the most “business friendly environment” possible. Our Board members represent not only dedicated local business owners and leaders, but community leaders, including the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority, City of Fairfax Economic Development Authority and City of Fairfax Management – all with a focused passion to make our business community and environment even better.

Did You Know?

A chamber of commerce is an organization of businesses seeking to further their collective interest, while advancing their community, region, state or nation. Chambers have existed in the United States for more than 200 years! The Central Fairfax Chamber of Commerce is one of the most active business network and business advocacy groups in Central Fairfax, and one of the fastest growing in Northern Virginia. We also provide an incredible amount of value for our members for about a dollar a day!

The Central Fairfax Chamber of Commerce is a 501 c(6) nonprofit organization; meaning, the Chamber has legal authority to engage in public policy debates and lobby on behalf of our members. The Chamber is not a charitable organization though it represents many of them within the membership. Revenue raised within the Chamber goes toward achieving its charge: to provide leadership and resources to the business community. The Chamber is an effective resource for creating a business-friendly environment that promotes growth, fosters partnerships, and enhances the economic prosperity of the region.

The Central Fairfax Chamber is organized around a board of volunteers and committees of volunteers, mostly representing the private sector. The Central Fairfax Chamber is not an entity of the government, although many consider the process of informing and educating elected/appointed officials to be one of its most essential functions.

Exploring Fairfax City

From sites portraying the nation’s early history and the Civil War to a thriving arts scene, recreational activities and restaurants to please every palate, the City of Fairfax offers a wide range of attractions for visitors and local residents.

First occupied by the Manahoac tribe, the area that is now a city of more than 24,000 boasts a rich history from its time as the newly-established town of Province in 1805 to its days as a crossroads of conflict during the Civil War. Later, it became a dairy farming community before giving way to post-WWII suburbia.

Bringing history to life

Tours and educational programs are offered at the Historic Blenheim and the Civil War Interpretive Center, where visitors can explore graffiti left on the walls of the historic house by Federal soldiers, and at the Ratcliffe-Allison-Pozer House, the oldest residence in the city. Explore regional history at the Fairfax Museum and Visitor Center where they are host to monthly programing and visiting exhibitions. Admission to historic sites is free.

New experiences in dining, shopping and the arts

While the city, about 20 miles south of Washington, pays homage to its past, it also offers dynamic developments in dining, shopping, the arts and special events.

“Fairfax City feels like a neighborly small town in the midst of a vast suburban area,” says Cami St. Germain, historic resources specialist for the city. “Folks from all over enjoy taking in our unique historic sites, experiencing our huge range of city festivals and arts events — many are free — or dining at one of our diverse restaurants and breweries. There is something for everyone here.”

The diverse and growing culinary scene includes 150 restaurants, from fast-food franchises to white-tablecloth venues offering memorable dining experiences that have made Fairfax a regional destination in recent years. The city partners with the Central Fairfax Chamber of Commerce to host the annual Restaurant Week twice a year. Since 2018, this popular culinary celebration features dozens of independently-owned restaurants and features cuisines from around the world.

Along with the diverse range of culinary arts, the city has a long history of championing the many other diverse forms of art including performing arts, musical arts, literary arts and visual arts.

Old Town | Public Art

Go on an art walk in the city and explore the many murals and public art pieces.

Another popular attraction is Old Town Fairfax, a walkable four-block area displaying historic buildings with fascinating stories to learn about, restaurants and a variety of shops and other venues. Old Town Square plays center stage to the many events that the city and local businesses host on a monthly basis.

In each of the city’s five “Activity Centers” – Fairfax Circle, Kamp Washington, Northfax, Old Town Fairfax and Pickett & Main – there is a buzz of excitement surrounding new development and redevelopment projects.

Town-Gown Relations

The largest university in Virginia – George Mason University — is literally in the city’s backyard! There are many opportunities for members of the “Mason Nation” to dine, shop and play in Fairfax City. There are also many opportunities for city residents to enjoy all that Mason has to offer — athletics, cultural arts and more! The connection between the university and the city includes the annual Rock the Block” in Old Town Square in Old Town Fairfax, held the 4th Friday in September. Attendees bring chairs and blankets to enjoy live music, food and drinks from vendors and a variety of other activities.

Parks and Recreation

Recreational and leisure-time opportunities are available throughout the year for people of all ages. Walking and biking trails provide fitness activities, and cultural arts programs include dance, music, storytelling and kids’ art offerings. For youngsters, there are summer camps for all ages. Fairfax City Young at Heart Senior Center, located at the Green Acres Center, is a recreational center with numerous and varied activities for all active adults 55 and better! 

Daniels Run Trail is the city’s top trail destination, and Van Dyck Park is the city’s busiest, most active park. You can find fitness classes, kids’ programs and cultural arts events at the Stacy C. Sherwood Center and Old Town Hall. Old Town Square features a splash pad, the McCandlish Memorial Garden and the Kitty Pozer Garden.

The Central Fairfax Chamber of Commerce, Fairfax City Economic Development and the Old Town Fairfax Business Association come together twice each year and co-sponsor the Fairfax City Restaurant Week with a Winter and Summer iteration. 2025 marks the eighth year of highlighting and celebrating Fairfax City’s diverse culinary scene.

Burke Lake Park

Ellanor C. Lawrence Park

Greenbriar Park

Oakmont Recreation Center

This facility in Oakton offers something for everyone in the family. It includes an indoor swimming pool with lap lanes, diving boards and a leisure pool area that’s perfect for kids learning to swim. The center also features fitness equipment, racquetball courts, mini-golf facilities and multipurpose rooms where classes are held year-round. Recreation Centers

Fairfax County recreation centers are hubs of activity year-round, offering swimming pools, fitness classes for all ages and programs tailored to children’s interests such as gymnastics or martial arts lessons. Historical Exploration

Historic Fairfax Courthouse

During the Civil War, this building was occupied by both Union and Confederate troops. In the spring of 1862, the Union Army took possession of the courthouse for the rest of the war. It was reported that the building was gutted and many records lost or destroyed. The building you see today was fully restored in 1967. Fairfax Circuit Court Historic Records Center is located in the Courthouse on the first floor in Suite 1600. They have records dating from the formation of Fairfax County in 1742 through the early 1900s. 

Fairfax Station Railroad Museum

History comes alive at this museum in Fairfax Station, which highlights the area’s role as a Civil War supply hub and its connection to the railroad industry. Families can explore exhibits on local history while kids enjoy interactive model train displays that bring the past to life.

Colvin Run Mill

Step back in time at this 19th-century water-powered mill near Great Falls. Guided tours provide insight into how grain was processed before modern technology took over, while hands-on activities let children try their hand at traditional tools and techniques.

Ox Hill Battlefield Park

Ox Hill Battlefield Park preserves the site of Fairfax County’s only major Civil War battle — the Battle of Ox Hill (also known as the Battle of Chantilly). This small but significant park features interpretive trails with wayside markers that recount how Union troops clashed with Confederate forces during a ferocious thunderstorm on September 1, 1862. Visitors can view monuments dedicated to Union generals Isaac Stevens and Philip Kearny — both killed during the battle—and learn about the soldiers’ experiences through interactive exhibits.

Fair Oaks Mall

One of the region’s largest premier shopping destinations in Fairfax, Virginia, Fair Oaks features more than 160 stores, services and dining options. The unique two-level enclosed center features Macy’s, Dave & Busters and JCPenney, along with a great tenant mix of Apple, Children’s Science Center Lab, Coach, J. George Mason University is Northern Virginia’s four-year higher education partner. George Mason tops the rankings as Virginia’s leading public research university for best value, internships and upward mobility. We have campuses in Fairfax, Arlington, Manassas and South Korea.

George Mason’s growth over the past 53 years has steadily risen. Enrollment for the fall 2024 semester was at a record high of 40,449 students from all 50 states and 130 countries.

George Mason prepares its graduates to fulfill critical workforce talent pipelines in tech, public health and other industries. George Mason produces more tech graduates than any other four-year institution in Virginia, with 34% of the graduating class of 2024 earning a STEM degree. Fuse at Mason Square, a new 345,000-square-foot hub for digital innovation, will house a mix of university R&D and related education programs, as well as corporate innovation labs, incubators, accelerators and co-working facilities, retail, a below-grade parking garage and enhanced public spaces at Mason Square (formerly Arlington Campus).

As prescribed in the Commonwealth’s Tech Talent Investment Program, George Mason will produce about 30% of 25,000 additional graduates in tech fields over the next two decades to serve region and state employers. Fuse at Mason Square opened for commercial use in December 2024 and will welcome students in fall 2025.

Virginia’s first and only College of Public Health calls George Mason home. The College of Public Health meets a critical need for skilled health professionals and research in the Commonwealth. George Mason’s cutting-edge research portfolio includes groundbreaking advancements in cancer detection, Lyme disease treatments, concussion protocols and COVID-19 early detection.

George Mason takes a holistic approach to education, meeting students where they are. The ADVANCE program, a partnership between George Mason and Northern Virginia Community College, eases the transfer pathway for incoming students. Since its inception in 2018, more than 5,000 students have enrolled in ADVANCE. It aligns degree requirements between the two institutions, offers coaching and academic support and produces cost savings for program participants. The Mason Virginia Promise extends ADVANCE to community colleges across Virginia, providing guaranteed admission to students who meet milestones and earn their associate degrees.

Inova also recently embarked on a series of new investments to modernize and expand its facilities. A little more than a year ago, the Inova GoHealth Urgent Care opened in the Pickett Shopping Center, where city residents can seek care for less immediate health needs. The local Inova ER will undergo renovation in the coming year. Located on Chain Bridge Road just north of George Mason University, the Fairfax City ER typically has little to no wait time compared with its busier counterparts at the hospitals.

The ER at nearby Inova Fairfax Hospital is actually the third busiest in the nation, treating more than 176,000 patients last year. To address continued growth in patient demand, Inova is in the middle of a large-scale project to double the size of the current Emergency Room. Phase 1 of the expansion recently opened with a new standalone pediatric ER and a new behavioral health unit.

Inova’s commitment to pediatric emergency care is reflected in the redesigned, family-friendly Inova Children’s Emergency Room – the most comprehensive pediatric ER in the region. This specialized expansion provides a dedicated entrance and welcoming environment tailored to young patients and their families. The new space includes a separate reception area and calming features to help reduce any fears or anxiety.

Adjacent to that new space, Inova also recently opened the region’s first EmPATH (Emergency Psychiatric Assessment, Treatment and Healing) unit, a specialized facility designed to provide a safe, calming environment for patients experiencing a mental health crisis.

The number of patients seeking behavioral health services at the Inova Fairfax Hospital ER has surged by more than 30% in recent years, underscoring the need for this specialized facility and an approach that prioritizes compassionate, effective and timely mental health care. This new unit complements the Inova Kellar Center, the region’s premier pediatric behavioral health center near the City’s western gateway just off Main Street. The center serves local children and families experiencing mental health and substance use disorder challenges.

Inova also is proud to partner with the local K-12 public schools and universities on training the next generation of healthcare professionals. It recently launched Dream Big, an inclusive workforce development initiative aimed at ensuring the healthcare workforce better reflects and represents the communities Inova has the privilege to serve.
