Winship Studio, 7183 N. Main St., Suite A, is a long-standing Clarkston business that
was founded in a local garage in 1969. John Ransom, the current owner, purchased it in 2018 after a
lengthy career in wealth management.
“I chose to transform my photography hobby into a business after meeting with the Winship family.
Winship is a long-standing part of the local community, and I wanted to see it continue,” Ransom
stated.
Today, Winship focuses on custom high school senior photo sessions, executive portraits, sports and
dance team portraits, as well as family portraits.
“I particularly like to work with high school seniors, letting them choose how they want to be
photographed, whether it is in their Jeep, on a soccer field, with a sketch pad in the park or in a
flower field. Our clients love our 50-image custom coffee table photo albums for them to keep for the
rest of their lives.”
Remember those yard signs that were all over town during the pandemic, announcing graduations and other
milestones? Many were made by Player Prints, which is located at 3694 Clarkston Rd.,
Suite B in Clarkston.
Joe Berden started the company in 2018, offering t-shirts, jerseys, hats, banners and posters, yard
signs, window clings, big heads on sticks and even trading cards, all custom made for scores of local
schools, businesses and sports teams.
“Our custom items have become signs of unity,” Berden stated.
“During the pandemic, we printed 7,000 yard signs in two months. Then we printed 13,000
“Oxford Strong” t-shirts in one week after the Oxford shooting tragedy and donated the
proceeds – $55,000 – to help victims. We will always support the local communities and,
Oxford is still our biggest client today. It only felt right to give back to people who have already
given us so much.”
Player Prints’ business has exploded well beyond Clarkston and Michigan, Berden said. They are
currently looking for a larger space in which to expand and now ship to all 50 states and deliver large
orders to local schools. They even made Big Heads on a Stick for the San Jose Sharks hockey team.
