oldest towns in the Pacific Northwest and one of Washington’s earliest cities, dating back to
1891. Auburn is centrally located between Tacoma and Seattle, Washington’s two largest cities.

The Auburn Area is filled with tons of fun attractions and historic sites that attract visitors of all
ages and popular places that are unique to the area. No matter what time of the year you decide to
visit, the Auburn Area will welcome you with friendly faces and guaranteed good times. You will find a
variety of fun local recreation and entertainment options, no matter what your interest or skill

Outdoor Enthusiasts
The Interurban Trail parallels the Union Pacific Railroad and runs north to south through Tukwila,
Kent, Auburn, Algona and Pacific. It is approximately 17 miles long, providing a great workout, whether
you walk, run or bike.
Cedar Lanes Bike Skills Park is a unique combination of native woodland, well-kept lawn, and a
playground for all biking levels to enjoy.
At Flaming Geyser State Park, you can go tubing or rafting down the Green River, hike on the trails or
fly remote-controlled model airplanes in the specially designated area. Learn about the park’s
ecological environment on a self-guided tour of the Salmon Interpretive Trail.
Spend the afternoon visiting the breathtaking Soos Creek Botanical Garden and Heritage
Center. The center is open to the public, pairing the experience of strolling amid inspirational,
mature gardens with the fascinating local history of the Soos Creek Plateau. Featured image on

Sports Gaming Enthusiasts
Nestled along the Green River and situated on 150 acres, the Auburn Golf Course offers scenic views
from several hillside holes. A full-service 18-hole facility, the fair but challenging par 71 course is
just over 6,450 yards. For a 18-hole experience using a disc, visit White River Disc Golf Course, a
well-balanced and picturesque course along the White River.
Stop at Dave & Buster’s for dinner while watching your favorite sporting event on their
large-screen TVs. Feel like a kid again while playing games in the restaurant’s extensive arcade
section.
Play bocce at Les Gove Park. Courts are available for use daily, and virtually anyone can play for fun

Experience the thrill of live horse racing at Emerald Downs. Offerings include daily table games and a

White River Amphitheater is a beautiful 16,000-seat outdoor venue that hosts live music and

Overview of the Auburn area
With a combined population of nearly 94,000, the cities of Algona, Auburn and Pacific offer plentiful
and diverse opportunities. From commerce to tourism, health care to education, these cities offer
residents, business owners and visitors countless amenities.
Straddling both King and Pierce counties, the White River Valley has been inhabited by the Muckleshoot
Indian Tribe for centuries. Settlers first began to develop communities within what is now the city of
Algona in the 1870s.
First called “Slaughter,” after an army officer was killed in a conflict, the city of
Auburn was next to begin development in 1887. Pacific followed nearly 20 years later in 1906. The City
of Algona was officially incorporated in 1955; Auburn in 1891; and Pacific in 1909.
The first settlers in the White River Valley took advantage of proximity to the Northern Pacific
Railway depot and invested in agriculture. Much of the crop focus was hops, flower bulbs, potatoes and
berries. These crops were mostly cultivated by Japanese American and Filipino-American farmers. This
rich history can be seen and experienced today at the White River Valley Museum, Mary Olson Farm and the
Neely Mansion.
While agriculture is still a part of the area’s economy, production and manufacturing, health
care and retail are the primary businesses in the area. The Auburn School District, Boeing, MultiCare
Health System, the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe facilities, Oak Harbor Freight Lines, Inc., Oldcastle
Infrastructure, Orion Industries, Icon Materials, Emerald Aire, The Outlet Collection and Waste
Management (South Sound) are some of the largest employers in the Auburn area.
Development is on the rise in the Auburn area, as well, as the population is projected to grow at a
healthy rate. The diverse businesses in the area are also expanding in anticipation of what the future
will offer.
The Auburn area is situated conveniently between Seattle and Tacoma. The Auburn Transit Center in the
heart of Auburn allows for a quick Sounder train ride to either city to catch a Seahawks or Tacoma

About Algona
The City of Algona is a small residential community nestled in the heart of the Green River Valley in
South King County.
Algona was officially incorporated on Aug. 22, 1955, and, due to a misspelling by postal officials, was
originally named Algoma, an Indian term for “valley of flowers.” Algona is known for its
wetlands, herons and other wildlife. The community developed from homestead settlers in the 1870s and
1880s.
Like many U.S. small towns, Algona has changed over the years. The town’s charm is increasing its
popularity, while it has retained a strong sense of community.

John Matchett Memorial Park is a 3.75-acre community park located in the heart of Algona.
In 2025, Algona dedicated the David E Hill Memorial Wetland Preserve, located at the SW corner of
Ellingson and Pacific Avenue. It is an 8.9-acre open space park and offers a passive recreation
opportunity with walking trails and an overlook deck with benches.
Algona also has several smaller neighborhood parks.

Did You Know?
After the brick section of the old Algona Grade School was demolished, bricks were sold for 20 cents to
anyone who wanted a piece of Algona history. After the demolition, John Matchett Memorial Park was
enlarged and the school’s stone work and bricks decorate the entrance. The park consists of a
playground, gazebo, tennis courts and a baseball field.

Building a Healthier Community
Getting and staying healthy can be a challenge in today’s fast-paced world. Lucky for the
residents of the Auburn area, there are award-winning medical facilities and practitioners, like
MultiCare Auburn Medical Center and Cascade Eye and Skin Clinic, right in their backyard.
The Muckleshoot Health and Wellness Center is an amazing tribal clinic that provides medical, dental,
optical, pharmaceutical and fitness services exclusively to the Native population in King County. The
Muckleshoot Tribe also operates a community health representative program consisting of community health
education, nursing, nutritional, alcohol and mental health counseling.
Most people try to avoid going to the dentist. Thankfully, Auburn has dental providers like Dentists of
Auburn and Dentists of Lakeland Hills who help make getting dental work less of a chore. Molen
Orthodontics has you and your family covered for any orthodontic work you may need.
Part of maintaining one’s health also includes keeping healthy routines, like regular exercise
and relaxation. The Auburn Valley YMCA is a great family fitness facility in the Auburn area. If you
need some relaxation or pampering, visit the Resort Medspa and Wellness Center where they combine
advanced aesthetic expertise with a truly inclusive approach that helps every guest feel understood and
supported.
If you injure yourself during a workout, don’t stress – it happens to the best of us.

These days, alternative medicine isn’t so alternative anymore. NIH has provided information on
the potential benefits of cannabis and CBD products for different types of medical conditions,
disabilities and illnesses, such as epilepsy, glaucoma, multiple sclerosis and PTSD. Although the FDA
has not approved THC for medicinal purposes and CBD is extremely limited, many find medical relief with

Almost 5K Poker Fun Run, Walk, or Stroll
The Almost 5K Poker Fun Run & Walk is an easy run around Les Gove Park. This fun run will utilize the
big loop at Les Gove Park. Five loops around is “almost” a 5K (short of a 5K by 1,138 feet).
For each lap around the loop, participants will stop, choose a card and try to get the best
poker hand with the five cards drawn. The route is flat, easy and enjoyable for all ages and ability
levels. Registrants with the highest poker hands in each age category will win a fun prize!

61st Annual Veterans Parade
& Observance
One of the largest Veterans Day Parades in the country! The parade proceeds west on Main Street from E
Street SE to A Street NW in Auburn and will include fly-overs, 20+ marching bands and several honor
guards and ROTC units. Spectators will enjoy the military marching units and antique military vehicles.
A variety of veterans units are always crowd pleasers. Spectators will also see community and
scouting groups, motorcycle entries, classic cars and more. Food trucks and food vendors will be
available during the parade from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Free community event.

Festival of Trees
Festival of Trees is a community-based holiday exhibit at the White River Valley Museum. Each year the
