Auburn is one of the oldest towns in the Pacific Northwest and one of Washington’s earliest cities, dating back to 1891. Auburn is centrally located between Tacoma and Seattle, Washington’s two largest cities. Auburn has experienced sudden growth. New businesses have come to the community, others have expanded, and efforts are underway to encourage businesses to relocate to our business-friendly city.

We are surrounded by natural beauty, with opportunities to enjoy year-round outdoor activities. Within the city boundaries there are 30 parks, four golf courses and two large swimming pools. Within a short distance you can hike or bike along the White and Green River trails or the Interurban Trail.

Neighboring cities of Algona and Pacific are interwoven with Auburn and are represented collectively by the Auburn Area Connect, Chamber of Commerce. The mayors of each of these cities work collaboratively for the improvement of the region. Each city offers its own amenities and unique charm. The Auburn Area’s three cities are positively affecting the continued growth and success of our region in King/Pierce County.

The Auburn Area is filled with tons of fun attractions and historic sites that attract visitors of all ages and popular places that are unique to the area. No matter what time of the year you decide to visit, the Auburn Area will welcome you with friendly faces and guaranteed good times. You will find a variety of fun local recreation and entertainment options, no matter what your interest or skill level.

The Interurban Trail parallels the Union Pacific Railroad and runs north to south through Tukwila, Kent, Auburn, Algona and Pacific. It is approximately 17 miles long, providing a great workout, whether you walk, run or bike.

At Flaming Geyser State Park, you can go tubing or rafting down the Green River, hike on the trails or fly remote-controlled model airplanes in the specially-designated area. Learn about the park’s ecological environment on a self-guided tour of the Salmon Interpretive Trail.

Sports Gaming Enthusiasts

Nestled along the Green River and situated on 150 acres, the Auburn Golf Course offers scenic views from several hillside holes. A full-service 18-hole facility, the fair but challenging par 71 course is just over 6,450 yards.

Stop at Dave & Busters for dinner while watching your favorite sporting event on their large-screen TVs. Feel like a kid again while playing games in the restaurant’s extensive arcade section.

Play bocce at Les Gove Park. Courts are available for use daily, and virtually anyone can play for fun or competition. Enjoy bocce with two or more players; play solo or in teams. The game provides many hours of fun for friends and family.

Auburn FieldhouseUSA is a community-based, multi-purpose indoor facility that hosts sports leagues, events and tournaments and offers performance training, sports camps and fitness opportunities for all skill levels. Three Cities, One area

Overview

of the auburn area

With a combined population of nearly 94,000, the cities of Algona, Auburn and Pacific offer plentiful and diverse opportunities. From commerce to tourism, health care to education, these cities offer residents, business owners and visitors countless amenities.

Straddling both King and Pierce counties, the White River Valley has been inhabited by the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe for centuries. Settlers first began to develop communities within what is now the city of Algona in the 1870s.

First called “Slaughter,” after an army officer was killed in a conflict, the city of Auburn was next to begin development in 1887. Pacific followed nearly 20 years later in 1906. The City of Algona was officially incorporated in 1955; Auburn in 1891; and Pacific in 1909.

The first settlers in the White River Valley took advantage of proximity to the Northern Pacific Railway depot and invested in agriculture. Much of the crop focus was hops, flower bulbs, potatoes and berries. These crops were mostly cultivated by Japanese American and Filipino-American farmers. This rich history can be seen and experienced today at the White River Valley Museum, Mary Olson Farm, and the Neely Mansion.

While agriculture is still a part of the area’s economy, production and manufacturing, health care and retail are the primary businesses in the area. The Auburn School District, Boeing, MultiCare Health System, the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe facilities, Oak Harbor Freight Lines, Inc., Oldcastle Infrastructure, Orion Industries, Icon Materials, Emerald Aire, The Outlet Collection and Waste Management (South Sound) are some of the largest employers in the Auburn area.

Development is on the rise in the Auburn area, as well, as the population is projected to grow at a healthy rate. The diverse businesses in the area are also expanding in anticipation of what the future will offer.

The Auburn area is situated conveniently between Seattle and Tacoma. The Auburn Transit Center in the heart of Auburn allows for a quick Sounder train ride to either city to catch a Seahawks or Tacoma Rainiers game. Sound Transit makes transportation a cinch; come check out everything the Auburn area has to offer!

About Algona

The City of Algona is a small residential community nestled in the heart of the Green River Valley in South King County. Algona was officially incorporated on Aug. 22, 1955, and, due to a misspelling by postal officials, was originally named Algoma, an Indian term for “valley of flowers.” Algona is known for its wetlands, herons, and other wildlife. The community developed from homestead settlers in the 1870s and 1880s.

Like many U.S. small towns, Algona has changed over the years. The town’s charm is increasing its popularity, while it has retained a strong sense of community.

After the brick section of the old Algona Grade School was demolished, bricks were sold for 20 cents to anyone who wanted a piece of Algona history. After the demolition, John Matchett Memorial Park was enlarged and the school’s stone work and bricks decorate the entrance. The park consists of a playground, gazebo, tennis courts and a baseball field.

Building a Healthier Community

Getting and staying healthy can be a challenge in today’s fast-paced world. Lucky for the residents of the Auburn area, there are award-winning medical facilities and practitioners, like MultiCare Auburn Medical Center and Cascade Eye and Skin Clinic, right in their backyard.

The Muckleshoot Health and Wellness Center is an amazing tribal clinic that provides medical, dental, optical, pharmaceutical and fitness services exclusively to the Native population in King County. The Muckleshoot Tribe also operates a community health representative program consisting of community health education, nursing, nutritional, alcohol and mental health counseling.

JSOL Studios offers a family-focused digital wellness studio centered on the parent-child relationship for children birth to age 10.

Most people try to avoid going to the dentist. Thankfully, Auburn has dentists like Dentists of Auburn and Happy Kids Dentistry who help make getting dental work less of a chore. Molen Orthodontics has you covered for any orthodontic work you or your kids may need.

Part of maintaining one’s health also includes keeping healthy routines, like regular exercise. The Auburn Valley YMCA is a great family fitness facility in the Auburn area.

If you injure yourself during a workout, don’t stress – it happens to the best of us. ‘A’ Street Clinic of Chiropractic can help work out those strains and kinks. If it’s a more serious injury, you can see a doctor at Cascade Orthopedics. With a little physical therapy at Auburn Sports Physical Therapy or Outpatient PT, you’ll be back in the gym in no time. If multidisciplinary rehab is what you need, make an appointment at Circle Creek Therapy.

These days, alternative medicine isn’t so alternative anymore. NIH has provided information on the potential benefits of cannabis and CBD products for different types of medical conditions, disabilities and illnesses, such as epilepsy, glaucoma, multiple sclerosis and PTSD. Although the FDA has not approved THC for medicinal purposes and CBD is extremely limited, many find medical relief with CBD- and THC-based products. Anyone who owns a pet can tell you that, most of the time, they help to lower stress, blood pressure and risk of heart disease. Keeping your pet healthy is essential. Local veterinarians like those at Auburn South Veterinary Hospital, Auburn Valley Animal Clinic and Auburn Veterinary Hospital play an important role. If your pet isn’t healthy, they can’t help in keeping you healthy. Of course, if you don’t have a pet, the Auburn Valley Humane Society always has adorable animals looking for a “fur-ever” home. Just remember to always license your pets.

Ensuring everyone receives the care and resources they require is vital. Organizations like YMCA Social Impact Center, Auburn Food Bank, Valley Cities Counseling & Consultation, Christ Community Free Clinic, Disability Empowerment Center, Terry Home and We Care Daily Clinic play a vital role in the local healthcare systems. Without the crucial resources these organizations provide, many would not have the medical, mental health or advocacy support they require.

Celebrate our country’s birthday at Les Gove Park in Auburn. This hometown event features live entertainment on two stages, numerous inflatable rides and other children’s attractions including a climbing wall, euro-bungy trampolines, trackless train rides, pony rides and more. The event also includes a car show, laser tag, mini golf, over 40 craft artists, a book sale, food concessions, a spray park and much more! There’s something for everyone! Auburn’s 4th of July Car Show

The Car Show is held in conjunction with Auburn’s 4th of July Festival. FREE dash plaque to first 200 paid participants. Awards in 15 categories. Almost 5K Poker Fun

Run & Walk

The Almost 5K Poker Fun Run & Walk is an easy run around Les Gove Park. This fun run will utilize the big loop at Les Gove Park. Five loops around is “almost” a 5K (short of a 5K by 1,138 feet). For each lap around the loop, participants will stop, choose a card, and try to get the best poker hand with the five cards drawn. The route is flat, easy and enjoyable for all ages and ability levels. Registrants with the highest poker hands in each age category will win a fun prize!

59th annual Veterans Parade

& Observance

One of the largest Veterans Day Parades in the country! The parade proceeds west on Main Street from E Street SE to A Street NW in Auburn and will include fly-overs, 20+ marching bands and several honor guards and ROTC units. Spectators will enjoy the military marching units and antique military vehicles. A variety of veterans units are always crowd pleasers. Spectators will also see community and scouting groups, motorcycle entries, classic cars and more. The day kicks off with a Community Breakfast, followed by a Remembrance Ceremony. Food trucks and food vendors will be available during the parade from 10am-2:00pm. The Auburn Noon Lions Luncheon follows the parade. The day is complete after the state’s largest Marching Band and Field Competition awards its winners at Auburn High School Stadium.
